Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

Re: Innovation Dist. / South Boston Seaport I'm assuming this project sits well within the Fort Point landmark historic district with strict design review, if so, it may be a good example that even in a landmark district the design review process allowed the construction of a high quality...

The Boulevard (née The Times/Littlest Bar) | 110 Broad St | Downtown

Up thread someone inquired about large storage tanks that were on site for much of the excavation process. No one ever answered and I don't know, but my hunch was they were used in some capacity due to the very constrained site in close proximity to the artery tunnels. Could they have been used...

    City Hall Plaza

I think the mbta government center rehab somewhat improved that particular corner of the plaza. The redesign of Cambridge street however, seems to have made it less pedestrian friendly with the median removed.

Those barriers went up for the Tall Ships event, I noticed they also put up barriers all along the perimeter edges of Long wharf

Dock Square Parking Garage | 20 Clinton Street | Downtown

Re: Dock Square Parking Garage, 20 Clinton Street Looking forward to a possible redevelopment of this parcel. The nexus of this parking garage and probably the worst stretch of the greenway create one of the most uninviting areas of downtown Boston.

Didn't bostonbred envision a roller coaster as part of boston history themed amusement park for the greenway a few years ago? Well, a zip line is coming and I think this is as close as were going to get ;-)...

Our Lady of Good Voyage | Seaport Sq Parcel H | 55 - 57 Seaport Blvd | Seaport

I always wondered why the cross seemed small, this provides an explanation: "the cross atop the bell tower comes from the former Mary Star of the Sea church in Quincy." source: http://www.wbur.org/news/2017/04/24/our-lady-of-good-voyage-shrine-renovations

Apparently, as per a story I heard this eve on NPR, they were going to have to cancel another flight out of Louisville if they couldn't get the 4 crew members down there. Also never realized the "carriage of contract" we all agree to when we purchase tickets does not guarantee a seat on a...

Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

Not so long ago this area was a blank slate, from the start the city could have laid out the groundwork for smaller development parcels via a more dense network of streets and pedestrian ways, etc. Also tweaking the zoning code to to encourage small and varied ground level activation. Granted...

I agree with you on dropping fares for weekend or off peak users. I don't think, however, there is much room to surge prices higher on rush hour passengers, our commuter rail fares are already very high, I live in a close in suburb and pay $15 round trip plus $3 parking to go 12 miles into...

Bay Village Apartment Tower | 212 Stuart St. | Bay Village

^ Yes, it's my recollection that this is a landmark district with strict controls over demolitions. The owner of the parcel let buildings on the parcel remain rundown and vacant until one day they either were knocked down by "accident" or burned to the ground - I can't remember.....

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

The difference between the subway and the commuter rail is the fact that a subway rider has no way to buy a ticket on the subway once on a train so POP might be a deterrent. However on a commuter rail, many commuter rail riders wait to "activate" aka pay for their ticket on their cell phones...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

I'm interested how this is going to work without causing further inconvenience to riders. With gates at the station and no on board collection, I foresee many buying the cheapest zone possible, i.e, zone 1 ticket vs zone 5. Without any gates, does a buzzer go off when someone crosses the...

East Boston Infill and Small Developments

^ I always appreciate insight from those more knowledgeable in design and construction than myself. Maybe the economic reality of modern era construction is a reason that municipalities should play a more active role in regard to urban design outcomes, e.g., more design review or changes to...

Another middle age member here, I'm 46, moved to Boston from Nebraska in 1993. Over the years I've lived in Beacon Hill, North End, Charlestown, Roslindale and now with the family in the suburbs. Although I'm a lawyer, my undergrad degree was Geography and I took as many urban planning classes...

Pierce Boston (née The Point )| Boylston St/Brookline Av | Fenway

^ Agreed - the podium is too low; I'd rather see a better street wall. The same issue occurs in new construction over in the seaport too. I speculate the intent here is to make the tower appear slimmer but the streetwall suffers IMO.
