L Street Station Redevelopment (née Old Edison Plant)| 776 Summer Street | South Boston

I think the average person thinks apartment=2 plus cars on the street. They don't know that commercial development is actually way worse for traffic than residential. That said, I'm still baffled that people (read the politicos) seem to want an office park here rather than the mixed-use...

Jackson Square Phase III | Jamaica Plain

I'm fascinated that 225 Centre can't keep retail. It seems like a great spot for it and the other newish building a block away on the other side of center has a lot. It may be property manager but I wonder if getting some matching retail on the other side of Centre wouldn't help.

Thanks for posting these. It's nice to see something finally getting built out there.

New Red and Orange Line Cars

I got a new orange line train at about 7:45 am yesterday headed north from Forest Hills. The best part was how excited everyone was to be on this nice, new car. The cleanliness and brightness were great. The wider doors also seemed to make a difference. Didn't love the beeping doors. And...

L Street Station Redevelopment (née Old Edison Plant)| 776 Summer Street | South Boston

There has actually been a fair amount of new construction on E 1st between L and Farragut. Not as much in the lower end, but lots of 4ish story condo buildings. TBH I find the demands for an all commercial development here irrational and very short sighted. They are asking for an office park...

The Bon | 1260 Boylston Street | Fenway

This site is actually near some pretty recent zoning that allowed all of the development along this stretch. It was supposed to taper off at the end to the park. Pretty standard stuff.

State Street HQ | One Congress | Bulfinch Crossing | West End

Yea, it's a boring as can be. Signage on buildings is unfortunately a bit part of Walsh's Boston but the companies should at least be trying. Ideally, it would be integrated into the building the way it was on the old one.

    The New Retail Thread

I loved Hillstone so much. It was sunken but that gave you a great view on the plaza, let you feel a bit removed form the chaos but still able to see it. And as chains go, the food was good while not insanely priced and the service was phenomenal. There is nothing like that in the area any more...

South Boston Infill and Small Developments

From what I know about affordable housing funding, which isn't much admittedly, the scale/massing decisions are made far outside of Boston. So the current trend nationally is away from density (Pruitt-Igoe haunts us). I saw a project in Roxbury where the funding sources wouldn't allow them to go...

One Kenmore Square | 560 Commonwealth Avenue | Kenmore Square

I agree that Kenmore Sq is not good--particularly since the changes T made to the stop in the middle. But I am not as convinced that this project is the answer. That plaza is on the north side of a building and it really constrained by the subway tunnel under it. I flat out don't believe the...

Residences at Brighton Marine | 1465 Comm. Ave | Brighton

The code changed recently to allow 5 over 2, right? So I think we are going to be seeing a lot more like this.

Emerson College - Little Building Addition + Renovation | 80 Boylston St | Downtown

The only part of this project I was concerned about was piercing that top parapet. It actually has turned our really well--I think those rooms will have a cool retrofit feel, in addition to amazing views on the park side.

Echelon Seaport | 133-135 Seaport Blvd | Seaport

I drove by this the other day and was so impressed. It is huge, but complex and interesting. I'm really looking forward to this being done.

Oxford Office Bldg. | 125 Lincoln St | Leather District

Why design a new building when you can stretch one you've already designed a short distance away? If this were a spectacular tower I think it would have a much better chance with the Leather District residents. As is, it is rewarmed Hub on Causeway.

One Kenmore Square | 560 Commonwealth Avenue | Kenmore Square

Bingo. They also want a PDA to avoid any zoning issues so the city will give them Comm Ave to let that happen.

Dock Square Parking Garage | 20 Clinton Street | Downtown

Re: Dock Square Parking Garage | 20 Clinton Street | You realize that development runs the city. They will approve anything that gets filed unless the neighborhood puts up a huge stink.

    Harvard - Allston Campus

Pretty sure Klarmon is on the B School. They like historicist stuff. And Tata, which isn't historicist, is a big ugh because of it's refusal to relate to the river. Bill Rawn is a really good architect but his best work is not on this campus.

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

It's striking when this isn't the case. I rented a car in Philly and refilling before dropping off was really difficult, even with all the assistance of digital maps.

    Artists for Humanity | 100 W. 2nd | South Boston

I don't hate it as much as everyone else here seems to--there are really nice views into the building from A Street. While the materials are very simple, it detailing is nice. But, what I've heard and who know if that is accurate, is that the nimby neighbors killed the height. The height...
