Canopy by Hilton (née Haymarket Hotel) | Blackstone St | Parcel 9 | Greenway

Re: Parcel 9 - The Greenway I have to say I agree with this. While I really like good urban lighting, boring signs doesn't cut it. It's one of the things that really detracts from the Seaport IMHO, all the signs. And that's not even including the blood curdling purple Vertex building lighting...

Canopy by Hilton (née Haymarket Hotel) | Blackstone St | Parcel 9 | Greenway

Re: Parcel 9 - The Greenway This isn't in Landmark's review. They might comment under the greenway guidelines but that's it. That said, in my experience they generally don't like big roof top signs because they are seen as detracting from the few remaining historic ones we have (Like Boston...

MassDOT Pike Parcels 12 - 15 | Boylston St. and Mass. Ave | Back Bay

Where is this image from? MassDot? It doesn't look much like the proposal.

    Parcel Q1 | 2 Drydock Ave. | Seaport

Re: Parcel Q1 | 10 Drydock Ave. | Seaport Don't forget, Track 61 goes right in front of this building--it would take a mint to fix it up but it's rail to the Marine Park.

Allston Yards (Stop and Shop) | 60 Everett St | Allston

I agree, each of those is big enough for large project review on its own. So place holders for sure.

    Boston's Best Lit Buildings

I really disagree about One Financial Center. That is just lazy shining a colored light on a building. It doesn't relate to the architecture of the building at all. They could light the top, maybe run light at the corners (I hate that idea, but at least it's an idea). Light can do so much for a...

    Parking Permits

I'd be curious to know how the surrounding towns that ban overnight parking started doing so. Phasing in limited parking seems like it could work, it could also just continue the drive for buildings that are all parking on the ground floor--see the lower end of Southie. IT all needs to go hand...

NEMA Boston | 399 Congress St. | Seaport

Re: Residences at 399 Congress St (formerly Madison Seaport Hotel) I think D2 is generally considered unbuildable. It's too bad that area is going to stay open along Summer Street.

Quaker Lane + Congress Square | Downtown

I don't mind the glass color, but I hate that spandrel. In general, I think spandrel should be dark because that's less stripey looking. But, overall, I think this is a really exciting project for Boston, very smart and thoughtful for the reasons people are expressing above.

    Amazon HQ2 RFP

Somehow I don't think HQ2 is going to be seven OMA buildings. I'd be happy if it was, but it's certainly not headed that way.

One Post Office Square Makeover and Expansion | Financial District

They've managed to blandify a pretty neutral background building into being aggressively blah. I'm also not believing any of the overcladding stuff they are selling. The top of the building is going to look different from the bottom and they keep rending it like it's all the same. Better to...

    Hyatt Place/Ora Seaport (née Parcel K) | 315 Northern Avenue | Seaport

This project has gone through a typical BPDA review with public meetings and so forth. That said, I find it hard to learn about project unless I really try to. I'm not sure what the answer is but more communication about meetings would be great. Checking the BPDA website is probably the best...

SBWTC /South Boston Waterfront Transportation Center | Seaport

A cross-block connector is a great idea in this land of huge blocks. But one that runs through a parking garage is going to take a lot of work to feel safe after dark. Not that it cant be done, but my suspicion is that it is going to end up a long, empty path with no easy exist that is super...

City Hall Discussion - Redevelopment - Preservation - Relocation

I totally agree about Congress Street--it would be a great location for a more public function. But that's where city council and the Mayor's bigwigs park so I doubt anything will change.

MBTA Fare System (Charlie, AFC 2.0, Zone, Discounts)

Re: AFC 2.0 Charlie Card/MBTA Fare Replacement System A couple of things that interested me about this were: using and existing, proven system. Hallelujah! Seriously, the need of the T to reinvent things instead of adopting systems that work is mind boggling. I'd love a tap in tap out as...

Really interesting. Thanks for the follow up. Maybe we'll get a more appropriate project for that site now.

East Boston Infill and Small Developments

Wait, what? There was a demolition violation? The moratorium is a super unusual move for the BLC. Do you know more about this, like what the violation was that allowed them to impose the moratorium?

    Allston-Brighton Infill and Small Developments

I think that "structural issues" is almost always cited as the reason when someone wants to take down a building. Realistically, new is cheaper. In this location though, that is a great gateway building to the neighborhood and they should be pushed to keep it. They are trying to bring back the...

Pierce Boston (née The Point )| Boylston St/Brookline Av | Fenway

Thanks for the art photo--I'm looking forward to checking it out in person. Looks a lot more interesting than what we see in a lot of the city. The clean graphic nature is really appealing.
