Union Square Somerville Infill and Small Developments

How very 1960's. The cheap way of hiding left-over, inconvenient architectural detail, once it's been taken off. Looks too much like a chain link fence.

Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

It's the most massive and uninteresting facade for (dare I say) miles. Why can't lab buildings in downtown look better? Even Bell Telephone buildings tried harder with windows and detail.

    Boston Common Overhaul

Actually, as the oldest public space in the original 13 Colonies it was "discovered" by the Puritans as a perfect grazing area for cattle. They came upon the Rev. Blackstone, who had built a home on the hill. He was a kind of hermit from England who settled in with the Native tribes. He...

Viola | Mass DOT Parcel 13 | Boylston & Mass Ave | Back Bay

WHOOPS....literally. This would take a lot of getting used to, if it's possible.

    🔹 What's Happening With Project X?

Anyone know the address? If it around 333 Comm Ave it may be the former Jesuit priest residence which they left years ago. I don't know who took it over...it extended over several town houses. Ah, the days when Back Bay property could be bought for a song!

City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

I'm going by what I've seen in the last couple of years.

City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

I think it has to do with several factors: The Hatch Shell area has limited crowd use in the summer. There's plenty of room and it's used passively. Not a lot of people jumping up and down; it's a crowd that sits and listens. No snow or rain to muddy up the field. Grass recovers more...

City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

I'll never forget when the city did a beautiful job planting the median of Cambridge St. from City Hall to MGH with flowers, bushes, and trees. Soon after, a parade went through to celebrate a sports team's victory. The entire planting was trampled by crowds who had no respect for public...

Commonwealth Pier Revitalization (née Seaport WTC)| 200 Seaport Boulevard | Seaport

Fantastic! Superior design and consideration for the ordinary pedestrian. Great extension of the Harbor Walk!

Hurley Building Redevelopment | 19 Staniford St | West End

The above proposals have a "Frankenstein's Monster" quality. Not even lipstick on a pig. Pardon mixing metaphors...but in this case it's appropriate.

BU Data Sciences Center | 665 Commonwealth Avenue | BU Central

I spent a lot of time on Cummington St. too, in the early 70's....labs, classes...in gross, old, converted buildings with no ventilation or A/C. I wonder when BU will replace the rest of them, like 111.

City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

I agree with you as02143. You had to be there. At the time the government center complex was designed it was touted as the "New Boston". After decades of dreary, outdated cityscape, already partially destroyed by the central artery, the believe in "urban renewal" was almost absolute. Tearing...

Raffles Boston (40 Trinity Place) | 426 Stuart Street | Back Bay

Glad to see a lot of balconies relieving the otherwise too-slick facades, giving the building some texture and interest in contrast to the JHT.

Bulfinch Triangle Infill & Small Projects

Let's leave the North End alone, okay? It's one of the few very old and semi-intact neighborhoods in the city. Stick a few more towers in Cambridge instead.

Forest Hills Village | Jamaica Plain

I love the color (always a matter of personal taste), and especially the siding and the angularity of the facades. Refreshing, urban, European, and projecting into the future.

The Abbot Building | 1-30 Brattle St | Harvard Square | Cambridge

It's ironic. Beautiful window grates added to Harvard Square while beautiful and old window grates are being destroyed in Boston at the Shreve site....only to be replaced by endless, boring, Bauhaus window frames.

More like this one! Imaginative architecture....what a concept!

Nicely done! Now if they could just tone down the traffic around this island....

Ruins the entire area, and I mean everything one can see in that picture.

The St Regis Residences (former Whiskey Priest site) | 150 Seaport Blvd | Seaport

Through the whole seaport district we've been taking the "good with the meh" all along!
