Serious question: Are lab buildings easily converted to other uses? I'm thinking that the former industrial buildings downtown presented a challenge for conversion and many of them simply were torn down. Are all these lab buildings purpose-built or can they change use once the lab-mania...

MUCH better. And it appears more science has gone into all aspects, given Boston's harsh winters, skateboarders, and seasonal usage. Great for the farmers' market too.

That balcony may very well be a vantage point for snipers protecting the building in an emergency (so I've been told). I believe you'll see some slits on the ground floor as well, facing the plaza, and probably around each side of the building.

I've always felt that reflective glass facades ought to be few in any city. The reason: they begin to reflect each other or just the sky and throw out of balance the texture of the skyline. I've noticed this in Houston and even in NYC. Too many have already sprouted in Boston. The saving grace...

It actually "cleaned up" much better than I feared. Dare I say I like it? As a BU alum from the 70's this helps kick into high gear a 21st C vision for the campus.

I love this building. Given that its Boston ARTS Academy it makes sense to me to have as much visual stimulation and unusual massing as necessary to spark the imagination, cause curiosity and questioning, and otherwise make students, faculty, and guests proud to be housed in such a key landmark...
