MIT New 450-bed Residence Hall | 121 Vassar St. | Cambridge

I've never seen this in person, only in photos here....and lo and behold! It's faced with brick panels! Up until now all I saw were flat surfaces. Up close this is a very engaging building, and from a distance, seems to fit right into its immediate surroundings, front and back. The overall...

The St Regis Residences (former Whiskey Priest site) | 150 Seaport Blvd | Seaport

After what happened in Miami, I would hope all contractors are looking again at their construction techniques. I'm sure the rebar/concrete ratios have to be precise to preserve both over time.

    Billboards and the Urban Landscape

I'm curious....how many in this forum actually read billboards? And if you actually try to read them from a moving car, how often do you find their design, wording, and font sizes impossible to tell you what is being advertised? Looking at the sky-high billboards on poles along 93 and the...

    Woburn Village Redevelopment | Woburn

I'm from Woburn. Avoided this mall from the time it was built. Aside from JoAnn fabrics and Market Basket there was nothing to recommend it. An exterior refresh didn't do much good. The interior finishes also felt cheap. This recreation makes much more sense and hopefully will influences many...

Assembly Square Infill and Small Developments | Somerville

I lived and worked in Billerica for 13 years. I know what you mean! It's a town that lost its way long ago and contented itself with being an architectural and design backwater, from commercial, to residential, to government (the present town hall being in the old high school building). The...

Bay Village Apartment Tower | 212 Stuart St. | Bay Village

It looks like an actual architect designed this! I'm enjoying it's unique quirkiness.

Assembly Square Infill and Small Developments | Somerville

It's a very long way from it's sarcastic nickname: Slumerville!

Canopy by Hilton (née Haymarket Hotel) | Blackstone St | Parcel 9 | Greenway

I think I get it now that I see better pics. It's as if there were an addition stuck onto the narrow end of the building at a later date. An architectural conceit, if you will. It would have been more effective if the fenestration had been altered somewhat. At least the black goes around 3 sides.

    Roxbury Infill and Small Developments

Yes, it looks like there are four, 2 floor units at each corner of the building, each with a front door and a back exit, and basement garage. All without looking boringly "contemporary." Brilliant!

MGH Ragon Building | 55 Fruit Street | West End

What is it with hospitals thinking they have to 'humanize' their huge new buildings by swallowing up the facades of old ones? Similar thing has happened at Childrens' Hospital, I believe. Silly use of old material for no real reason.

Exchange South End ( Boston Flower Exchange) | Albany Street | South End

As I said, Genius Marketing....to the uninitiated the transit propaganda may be a surprise, but with all the bus lines included it looks good on paper. I agree, it is a slog from there to just about anywhere close to transportation, especially in the winter! Maybe developers will include a...

Exchange South End ( Boston Flower Exchange) | Albany Street | South End

Genius marketing....one of the best sites I've ever seen for a development.

Skanska Office Tower | 380 Stuart Street | Back Bay

I agree with you. Sadly, BU has been gradually forcing us, through its architectural choices, to exclude Bay State Road and that end of Comm. Ave, and environs, as NOT part of Back Bay, which seems now to end just east of Kenmore Sq.

Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

In Boston they appear to be perennials with an irrigation system, that will likely flower. Plus: no need to replant yearly. Minus: Boston is notorious for not keepin up plantings along streets (unlike the former MDC that has been consistent in caring for flowers along the Fellsway avenues). In...

Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

If Chicago can do this, Boston should be able to.

990 American Legion Highway | Hyde Park

The return of the "Garden Apartment". Looks like something straight out of Billerica.

The Parker Boston (nee LaGrange Tower) | 47-55 LaGrange St. | Downtown

Strange that the majority of windows on this look out to...nothing. Why would anyone want to live there, on one of the most densely developed narrow street in the city, tucked literally into a parking lot? Oh, I get it. It's going to be converted into a lab/research building where views are...

    Revere Infill and Small Developments

My father always told us the story of a friend of his who daringly stood up at the peak of the Cyclone....and sadly fell to his death. Glad it was his memory and not mine. I just remember the fun of being at "The Beach"....when I was four a nice man gave me a yellow and green wooden yoyo he had...
