State Street HQ | One Congress | Bulfinch Crossing | West End

Opinion of this one has already turned for the favorable but I'm a holdout. You can either be slender of proportion or you can be transparent to try to mitigate your bulk. This presents a face that is both wide and relatively opaque, but because of its construction none of the opacity lends any...

Modera Mystic (400 low/moderate income units) | 4000 Mystic Valley Pkwy | Medford

I remember long ago somewhere on here there was discussion of an OL stop between Wellington and Malden Center. I used to wonder at that, but it makes a lot of sense. Wellington is a great place to dump a car or get a bus to, but it is an awful walking station. Station Landing itself is an...

The Residences at Forest Hills | 3694 Washington Street | Jamaica Plain

Two birds/one stone: it's also what I like to call "elder millennial green". It's the accent color I associate with 2007-2011ish, and people who went to college then will be just about the target demo for this. For the record I fall firmly into the next cohort, and we are the people responsible...

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

Is there not already an express train to Providence? It's pretty fast, it just costs a bunch of money.

MIT Museum/Book Store | née Boeing | 314 Main St. | Kendall Square

I feel like we are a smart enough bunch here to get our points across without it having to be at someone's expense. It can be funny even, in a way that was not.

    Design a Better Lot

Two obvious such spots for me are 1) The Wellington surface lot(s). You could fit another whole Station Landing or Assembly Jr. on there while consolidating the parking into a structure. 1b) Ditto the Gateway Ctr lots. That's a whole neighborhood's worth of land. 2) The parking lots and...

    Memorial Drive Greenway Phase III

Whoever thinks this picture puts us in a favorable light has never tried getting off the Pike at the Brighton tolls.

Love a building trying to conceal its ugliness by blending into the winter sky.

Yeah but the Avalon at North Station isn't green. Huge difference.

    General Boston Discussion

Stick, we sometimes butt heads on the issue of trying to capture the missed art deco moment but I think the style is spot-on this time. Anyone who can read buildings would be able to tell that this was newer stuff and I don't think anyone has ever gotten upset about a new brick building. I don't...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

With all due respect, that's ridiculous and defeatist. I ride the Red Line every day and know about its travails but despite them there is no sense in which a car commute from the ends of the Red Line downtown is improved with a car. Every couple of weeks there are pretty bad delays, and it is a...

Echelon Seaport | 133-135 Seaport Blvd | Seaport

I will only speak for myself: I like the idea of the economy doing well even though I don't really feel like I'm seeing it reflected in my wages. I also hear a lot about businesses doing well; I suspect if you ask the people who manage them, you are going to get different answers than the people...

The Sudbury (Bulfinch Crossing Residential Tower) | 50 Sudbury St | GCG Phase I | Gov't Center

Happy to revisit this in a few months. Though I bet I won't be satisfied until the second tower starts growing to offset the solid feeling of this one.

The Sudbury (Bulfinch Crossing Residential Tower) | 50 Sudbury St | GCG Phase I | Gov't Center

From photo distance the depth of the facade flattens out so it looks cheaper than it is, with small punched openings. I want it to be a success but it's not looking great. You can't make the argument from these photos that this is of any more quality than the Avalon North Station tower.

Emerson College - Little Building Addition + Renovation | 80 Boylston St | Downtown

I think it's great, but does anyone know whether the color on the bay/oriel windows is a primer or final? I've never liked it and I'd love to see them come back with something in the charcoal range.

Nader Tehrani is a smart guy, I'm sure this effect is intentional but for sure they've got to be kicking themselves for messing up the gradient. Total flub.

    General Boston Discussion

Not quite sure what the best place for this is, it's not transit but it's a crazy roadways pitch: EITHER Eliminate one of Storrow Drive or Memorial Drive (Land Blvd can stay as a local road) OR make each of them one-way and make them work as a loop, giving the lanes in the opposite...
