This building sucks and we need a thousand more.

    Allston-Brighton Infill and Small Developments

I think it'll probably look good in real life but these curvy undulating facades always give me the impression of being made of cut-out paper.

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

That's gonna be a no way from me on both counts. Replacing the on-WB with an off-WB at Mass Ave doesn't seem like it corresponds to any demand, but I guess you're saying this would be the only way into the Back Bay from 93? This also keeps the Bowker overpass and adds another signal a very...

    BU Development Thread

I like it, visually and because it will reduce heat gain in a way that glass-only couldn't. If they orient and space these right they could save a bundle on operable shading inside. Gotta disagree about ISEC; I think without the slinky-coil fins you're left with the boring curved walls...

    BU Development Thread

I love this thing, build it as rendered. It's a bit big and I think the rooftop/garden scheme could be more ambitious but this is a hell yes from me.

Please please please let me get what I want this time. (not gonna happen though)

Fenway Center (One Kenmore) | Turnpike Parcel 7, Beacon Street | Fenway

It's a bastardization but yeah I see them in about equal measure.

New grid where? New avenues and highways where?

The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Also, really, whom does this serve? Is liking to look at lit up buildings at night enough to justify them? LEDs are very efficient but they're not free, and it hasn't stopped being a good idea to turn off lights you aren't using. I've always been annoyed that lights just stay on in very high...

    Boston Congestion Zone Charging

Seems fine, as long as the proceeds were to fund transit. Whether it's always true or not (it's not), the people who contribute the most to congestion say "I wouldn't drive if the T didn't suck." We need a way to induce ridership commensurate to the number of cars taken out because they don't...

    Development Map and Chart

I had a whole lengthy entry written to try to address certain points being made, and when I finished it I realized it didn't contain anything we don't all already know, so I erased it, have decided to put this question to you all instead: IF there is a price floor for housing (because land and...

Education First (Phase III) | 10 North Point Blvd | Cambridge

I think, upon seeing the rendering, that this is somewhat salvageable. If the glass is reflective enough it'll appear pretty light during the day, reducing the contrast between it and the precast. The bronze trim will help too. It won't look so slitty in the end.

Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial | Boston Common | Downtown

I don't really like any of these but I would echo what others have said and choose one that makes people somewhat uncomfortable. One of the most relevant dimensions of the King legacy is the way his words and work have been co-opted by...well, just about everyone, to suit their needs whether...

    Fenway Infill and Small Developments

Really disappointing evolution. The original was interesting and cool.

We are seeing the eschaton of misaligned windows, and it is a bloody one. Also can someone please confirm that there is a blue film on the glass of the windows in the images where glass is visible? That shade of blue would take this building from ugly to knock-it-down-and-start-over.

    SUPERCEDED MXD | Kendall Square

I think the interlocking move takes this from a building that wouldn't even register to one that makes some people say, "oh, huh."

Hood Business Park | 480-570 Rutherford Avenue | Charlestown

"Supertest" is an awful street name. It's possible to go too far with the branding and referential nomenclature. But yeah, the 35 tower is much better rendered in the NPC.

Kenmore Square North (WHOOP) | 533-541 Commonwealth Ave | Fenway

I liked Beton Brut's suggestion, but to my mind the optimal solution would be a big red triangle on a white field, with no text at all. Like modern art and everything after, it allows the observer to impose their own meaning onto it: If you like the Citgo sign because it's a landmark and icon...

City Hall Plaza Revamp | Government Center

Re: Official City Hall Plaza Proposals I'm not mad at this. It's not groundbreaking landscape architecture, true. But I believe the city needs a central civic space like this one for (even rare) occasions of mass gathering. I loved it when Boston Calling was there, I loved watching World Cup...
