    Downtown Crossing/Financial District | Discussion

How sad. I loved that little State Street building. It was a whimsical little cottage in the middle of the city. F-that developer.

Couldn't agree more about the cheap concrete pavers...penny wise, pound foolish. These will not age well. The same mistake is being made in downtown crossing.

Motor Mart Tower | 201 Stuart Str. | Park Sq | Boston

I just hope the BPDA and BCDC tell them to scrap it and go back to the drawing board. It was slapdash. They tried to incorporate the vertical limestone elements of the garage, but that seemed to peter out about halfway up...the glass looked kind of dark green but maybe that was just the...

Motor Mart Tower | 201 Stuart Str. | Park Sq | Boston

I went to the presentation for the motormart garage residential project yesterday. It's one of the ugliest buildings I've ever seen. It looks like it was lifted from the set of a city in Star Wars. It's a post modern mish mash of incongruous elements. It rises 290 feet above the maggiano's side...

Bay Village Apartment Tower | 212 Stuart St. | Bay Village

A local paper (Boston Sun I believe) is reporting that the variances for 212 Stuart Street have been appealed by an abutter. The legal threshold to justify variances is extremely high. A litigant who has the motivation (and most importantly the legal standing) has a very strong case. The courts...

Lovejoy Wharf | 131 Beverly Street | West End

Because it's a 700 square foot one bedroom that probably won't be suitable for the rest of my life...regardless, how many people do you think stay put forever once they purchase a property? Not too many.

Lovejoy Wharf | 131 Beverly Street | West End

I don't need a car for work everyday. But that doesn't mean the next buyer won't want one...part of the question is: how much does this inhibit resale?

Lovejoy Wharf | 131 Beverly Street | West End

I'm interested in hearing some of your thoughts about this project and the area. I'm thinking about buying a unit in the building. I currently live in the South End. The finishes and amenities in the building are outstanding. The roof deck is incredible. It also has a really nice lounge area...

Wentworth Institute of Technology Expansion | Fenway

I don't think this is a great building...it certainly isn't on the order of the MFA. I'm not a reflexive advocate for height at all costs. I simply think this is poor urban planning/design and a "fine" but not great building. Its presence could probably be enhanced by a better landscape design...

Wentworth Institute of Technology Expansion | Fenway

It would be a perfectly fine building if it were located in Milton or Needham...it is out of place in the middle of Boston. Look at the overhead view on google maps...you absolutely could improve the quad by pushing the main building out to the street. You wouldn't need to go directly to the...

Wentworth Institute of Technology Expansion | Fenway

I wish Wentworth would knock down their main building on Ruggles, and build a new structure to create a streetwall on Ruggles...as it is the suburban front yard is a complete waste. It is unused and makes the site feel suburban. Doing this would enable the school to create a larger quad behind...

Bay Village Apartment Tower | 212 Stuart St. | Bay Village

Toby, It's not Billy...he got paid handsomely. These developers have taken an uncommon and very risky approach to this project. They closed on the land for $13.5 million for two tiny parcels. The zoning here is terrible. They can only do this with massive variances...incredibly risky with so...

Mission Hill Infill and Small Developments

The Brookins have been doing this for decades...and have made a very tidy sum of money acting as jailhouse lawyers and fleecing developers for extortion payments to go away.

    11-21 Bromfield Street | DTX | Downtown

If anyone is a zoning attorney here they can say with more authority, but I work in the business and have dealt with variances many times. One simply needs to show that one will have a direct and negative impact because of changes allowed by the variance. Abutters are automatically given...

    11-21 Bromfield Street | DTX | Downtown

I seriously doubt that this gets built...you only need one litigant who has standing to overturn a variance. Every owner in Millennium place and 45 Province has standing...not to mention the multitudes of commercial condominium owners in the Jeweler's Building. Jewelers don't have a reputation...

    11-21 Bromfield Street | DTX | Downtown

I'm very skeptical that this project will ever get built if it requires a variance...the opposition/neighbors are simply too numerous and too wealthy. They are also organized. Unless the area is rezoned I think this is DOA.

    11-21 Bromfield Street | DTX | Downtown

Not wholly what I was expecting...not sure I like the way it bows out...personally I couldn't care less about the payless building...much ado about nothing imho.

    11-21 Bromfield Street | DTX | Downtown

This isn't a druker project...the developer is from out of town.

not mine to discuss in detail...but I think patience will be rewarded.

I have it on good authority that this will be the most audacious high rise design we've seen in this city in quite some time. Should be an exciting addition to the skyline.
