20 Somerset was a bland old building. I toured it several times...and it was adrift in its new environment. Surrounded by the state buildings it looked out of place and was never really exceptional. This project should have been (and who knows, may someday be with a new mayor) a 20-30 story dorm...

Samuels is brilliant...this is going to be fantastic. I have a feeling he will be borrowing from Eataly in New York...hopefully it will evoke the type of market feeling that exists in Europe.

Re: Fogg Art Museum Addition I'm encouraged to hear that the cladding is wood. I thought it was metal. The weathering effect may warm up what is a very bland looking wall. That said, I'd be surprised if that effect makes the design feel cohesive. I will admit I haven't seen the building in...

I'm really liking it too...to me, os gemeos looked like a giant simpsons character...it was a fun and unexpected diversion but I don't really think it added much to the area aesthetically.

Re: Berklee Expansion Plans I'm skeptical about the facade. I'm not sure how that material is going to hold up. I've seen that corrugated metal look very dingy very quickly. Guess it depends on the quality.

Re: The Forecaster Building (121-127 Portland St.) Piling on? I don't know what you're talking about. I just have never seen two bedroom units in which none of the bedrooms have windows. It's not uncommon to have 1 bed plus dens...the dens have no windows...that's exactly what makes them dens...

Re: The Forecaster Building (121-127 Portland St.) A few notes: Those plans are strange. Most of the "bedrooms" don't have windows. You can't even legally call them bedrooms. Also, this is a pizzutti development. Looks like the sister of Mrs. John Henry is running the show.

The most important component of this building will be the groundfloor retail...if the BRA has done its job the lobby entrance will be relatively small and there will many many retail outlets facing the street. I hope we don't get a liberty mutual type monolith in this regard.

Agreed on keeping the Rowe's parcel unchanged...Rowes Wharf really shines with an unimpeded view. It shouldn't be crowded. If New Center ever gets its act together I'd love to see it in Dewey Square. The likelihood of Mass Hort pulling its act together is remote. It should be a competition of...
