    Biking in Boston

I could be completely wrong, but given the timing of that Twitter post (to which I replied with the very same argument), its seems to me that the city was removing the barriers in advance of the storm so that plows could clear the streets curb to curb. I can't guarantee that those exact...

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

There isn't room. There's a reason there's been so many conceptual cross sections presented. We've been through this time and time again. Unless the proposed Pike cross section losses lanes and/or they decide to build the pedestrian/bike path out over the water, there is not enough room to fit...

Hurley Building Redevelopment | 19 Staniford St | West End

I'll start with the fact that the Staniford St. frontage effectively creates a soulless, grey monolithic barrier between the roadway and the vegetated courtyard/open space that lies within the complex while also serving to create a massive wind tunnel. Especially given it's urban location...

Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

Oops! :giggle: Figured we were talking about downsizing AL's flights to/from BOS to the 321.

Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

This would make sense with the customs preclearance in SNN and DUB, presumably. Would MHT need any additional buildout to accommodate this?

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

As a transportation engineer, this frustrates the hell out of me for many reasons. One of the biggest ones is the simple fact that construction costs rarely, if ever, go down over time. So, for a project that has funding issues to begin with, you're spending money to maintain failing...

Welp, their big announcement today is all about the new Mint experience. :(

MBTA "Transformation" (Green Line, Red Line, & Orange Line Transformation Projects)

What better way to start out a dreary Monday morning than to read about the systematic failures of CRRC in Springfield: https://www.bostonglobe.com/2020/10/25/metro/long-before-pandemic-problems-mounted-new-red-orange-line-cars/

Police Details, Cameras, & Enforcement Methods

Horizon is the Manufacturer. But they are sold by a distributor to construction firms. I used one of their systems for an alternating single lane roadway in Lexington when we were replacing a culvert. Worked like a charm.

The cascade grates (as compared to the "checkerboard" type) allow for significantly better drainage flow. But they must be properly installed and oriented in the direction of the flow to achieve this. Municipalities are allowed to use the checkerboard type if they like. The tumbler locks aren't...

    Suburban Complete Streets

Yep. You kinda beat me to this. Any work on State highway that includes touch existing drainage structures requires replacement of catch basin grates with not only cascade-type grates, but also with tumbler-style locks. These are manufactured by EJ Co. The vast majority of state projects use...

Dorchester Bay City (nee Bayside Expo Ctr.) | Columbia Point

I'll admit that I'm still pissed off because of how Bob Kraft botched the opportunity way back when to acquire this property for a potential Revs stadium and subsequent mixed use buildout. But any renders that do not address K-circle, even at this preliminary phase, represents a missed opportunity.

MGM Music Hall (née Fenway Theater) | 12 Lansdowne St | Fenway

So, the obvious follow up is what will FSG do without an operator? Will they find someone else, go at it alone or pivot to something else here?

Yeah, those are monitoring wells. The surrounding area shouldn't be caving in, unless the well shafts are cracked.

That's a precast drain manhole. Standard 10" slab top. Lift up the plywood and you'll see the opening for the casting to be installed on top.

I have copies of these in my office. I needed to recreate some Commuter Rail wayfinder signs for a roadway project was I working on and my contact at the T physically mailed me a copy of the 77 standards. Couldn't have been nicer to deal with.

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

This is incorrect. A reduction in travel lanes is simply a reduction in roadway capacity. To reduce traffic volumes, you need to create a reason for an overall reduction - additional public transportation options, increased numbers of people working from home, shifts in peak hour volumes, etc...
