    Hancock of the day...

Nice work John. It makes me hate the Clarendon even more - and thanks to this board I keep seeing a dollar $ sign. ablarc - he said it was around noon, you can tell the relative time of day in many of the shots from the shadow that the Clarendon casts on 500 Boylston.

Atlantic Wharf (née Russia Wharf) | Atlantic Ave | Waterfront

Re: Atlantic Wharf (formerly Russia Wharf) ^ Typical move on the part of the union. When times are tough, the unions increase their strong-arm tactics. It's not uncommon for unions to forbid their tradesmen from even touching materials (such as millwork) fabricated by non-union shops.

    Millennium Tower (Filene's) | 426 Washington Street | Downtown

Re: Filene's Not a bad idea at all. It actually makes sense. Is anyone from Menino's office or the BRA reading? ...Seriously... is this thing on?...

    The Pru it was Blue......

I guess it's official - colored LEDs are the "new thing" for high rise design. They are cool on the Pru since it is a landmark, but it could get tired quickly when it pops up on every new stump in the Seaport.

    Avenir

That would be cool, much better than a bunch of different buildings glowing with their own colors. I'd love to see congruity with the lighting; and I love the ever-optimistic Boston fans. We assume each team will make the playoffs every year, and are somehow shocked if they don't. It looks like...

    315 on A | 315 A Street | Fort Point

Re: A st Highrise Although the process is time consuming and costly, I think you are missing the point. When huge profits are extracted from a project through flipping approvals before anything gets built, the final developer is left with very tight margins. The end result is the most cost...

691 Mass Ave | South End

Re: 691 Mass Ave Very nice. An excellent balance of respecting the historical context without trying to imitate it. Naturally, it could still be ruined with crappy exterior materials, etc... More like this, please.

    The New Retail Thread

Is anything happening with the old location between Arlington and Berkeley? It's little building, and the ones next to it (where the Tannery had window displays), have been in bad shape for years. Does anyone know why? Has Druker managed to buy them yet? Along with the SC&L building and a...

    Industrial Boston

I second that. I saw the title and was excited to see some cool shots of industrial buildings, only to be disappointed (as always) by city hall.

    Allston-Brighton Infill and Small Developments

According to the Allston-Brighton blog link above, the owner is planning to keep the house and "Erect a six story, rear addition with eleven parking spaces below" - basically build an apartment building behind the existing house.

Atlantic Wharf (née Russia Wharf) | Atlantic Ave | Waterfront

Re: Atlantic Wharf (formerly Russia Wharf) Agreed. Keeping the old facades is a great nod to the history of the area. While it's easy to find fault in any project and pick apart small details, this one is pretty good overall. I concede that "they could have done much worse" is a weak standard...

    Fan Pier Developments | Seaport

An interesting idea, but I don't think it is the answer. What would keep one large developer from replicating the same mundane 30' wide building once a year on every block? For small parcels to work, ownership of the parcels needs to be fragmented (or the large developer needs to partner with...

    Fan Pier Developments | Seaport

They might have higher market value, but the cost of designing and building 20 separate buildings, presumably by a number of different developers with different architects, contractors, etc. offsets the higher market value. For the owner of a large block, it is much easier to build one large...

    Fan Pier Developments | Seaport

In order for this area to be transformed into a successful urban neighborhood, it needs a much more fine grained urban fabric - more buildings (with smaller footprints and varied design), a variety of street widths, active storefronts, and amenities to encourage pedestrian traffic...

Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

I saw this on Universal Hub last week, I assume Da' Mayah's latest great idea would go on these parcels. While more residential is needed here, Menino is once again misguided. Is this just too foolish to even discuss? http://www.universalhub.com/node/28749

    Fan Pier Developments | Seaport

^ Exactly. While it makes sense on paper for the developer, as Louis could help attract more retail, it pushes this project towards being just another office park with retail. (Waltham with better stores?) The developer obviously knows nothing about place making or building a real neighborhood...

    Fan Pier Developments | Seaport

The residential component keeps shrinking. One of the proposed waterfront residential towers, shown on the Fan Pier master plan, will now be occupied by the new home of Louis Boston for at least the next 10 years. At this rate, we may never see a residential tower there...

    315 on A | 315 A Street | Fort Point

Re: A st Highrise That's the economics of design and development at work. Not all condo projects can be "Luxury", not all buildings can be landmarks. This project seems to be a mid-income price point, affordable for new construction. A developer can't afford to build high ceilings to match the...

    The Clarendon

Is it just me, or is the blue waterproofing membrane at the crown still visible behind the recently installed white louvers?

    The Clarendon

Thanks, that made me laugh! Seriously, though - this crown is truly offensive. Even worse is the fact that it will be lit at night. This building is in my direct line of site from the living room and deck. Basking in the glow of it's crown all night will make me sick.
