14 West Broadway | South Boston

Bookending the building in silver Aulcobond was a mistake. Forget everything I said about them not going for tired motifs. They gave in to their worst instincts.

    Quincy Center Redevelopment

PoMo was bad and we should stop trying to bring it back.

Omni Hotel @ BCEC | Summer St | Seaport

I think it withered on the vine and was forgotten about by anyone with the power to make it happen. Aside from money, there were some serious logistical challenges on the other side of the channel and questions about how to tie the line into the rest of the system in a way that wouldn't break...

Omni Hotel @ BCEC | Summer St | Seaport

The long-discussed commuter rail shuttle station should be built from precisely where that truck is sitting on back to the curve at the overpass. Instead: Boston: "Let's build it on the far side of the convention center near the channel, within sight of South Station and offering pedestrian...

The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Honestly, in light of all the grief we've given the office tower, we've really ignored the fact its neighbor is going to be the kind of derivative "background building" we've seen over and over again for the past 15 years.

Gables Seaport (née Waterside Place 1B) | 505 Congress Street | Seaport

Re: Waterside Place 1B | 505 Congress Street | Seaport I'm surprised the roadbed didn't crumble to dust the last time someone on the Silver Line sneezed. The whole thing looks and feels like it was paved with Quickrete.

MBTA Red Line / Blue Line Connector

Yeah, pretty much. 1. Hire a consultant for the Red / Blue Connector 2. Propose an unrelated commuter rail extension instead 3. Hire a consultant to consult on the original project 5. Propose another unrelated commuter rail extension 6. Hire a consultant to consult on the project consultants...

Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

Re: Innovation Dist. / South Boston Seaport The wide median should've been a protected bike lane. The fact that didn't happen is one of the most annoying aspects of the whole neighborhood.

Boston Landing | New Balance Complex | Brighton

The difference in material quality between the first and bottom two images is jarring.

The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

THIS. Some restraint would fix the actual plan they're going with. The upper and lower sections are fine. It's the kitchen sink approach of adding just one more façade style that diminishes so many otherwise good designs.

The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Cohesive designs are considered passé these days.

Mixed Use Complex | 345 Harrison Ave | South End

This tries waaaaay too hard, but doesn't know what it's trying to be.

The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Agreed. "Why didn't they just make the whole building look like that one part of the building?" strikes again. It's a recurring theme in Boston.

    121 Seaport Boulevard | Parcel L2 | Seaport Square

The approach to building the Seaport has been: "What do people love about Boston? OK, let's not do any of that. What's Atlanta up to?"

    Allston-Brighton Infill and Small Developments

I find it hard to reconcile that building's cheap looking exterior with Jaguar's desired brand image.

14 West Broadway | South Boston

You and be both, but: - It lacks the haphazard aesthetic confusion of a lot of contemporary buildings. - It doesn't regurgitate the same tired motifs we've seen time and time again for the past 15 years. I think it's great and I'd love to see more like it.

Winter Garden | 100 Federal St. | Financial District

So, they built a "winter garden"... with the foliage outside? That's called a lobby.
