The Casco | 201 Federal Street | Portland

I like the look of the masonry panel piercing the cornice but am assuming these panels will also require some sort of capping to avoid water penetration.

I had my first opportunity to visit Sanford last fall and I was surprised that there was as much there as there is. I think there is a lot of potential in that area.

The Casco | 201 Federal Street | Portland

Having VISION is something the city of Portland can NEVER be accused of. They see only that which is right in front of their nose.

The Casco | 201 Federal Street | Portland

The creation of that pedestrian mall is still controversial among Helenans. A lot of historic Victorian architecture was razed to create the mall during urban renewal and it never became greatly successful as they had hoped.

The Casco | 201 Federal Street | Portland

Curious what street in Helena you are referring to .... I know Helena like the back of my hand and that poor town too was ravaged by urban renewal to create the Last Chance Gulch pedestrian mall.

The Armature | 52 Hanover St | Portland

LOVE that random orange siding ..... it adds such a special touch to the architecture. SMH

83 Middle St | CHOM Affordable Housing | Portland

The idea that it has no soul has nothing to do with location. It has everything to do with architects who can't think outside the box and end up designing a utilitarian cliche'. No thanks to the city of Portland who does not hold them to a higher standard. Demanding that developers maintain...

83 Middle St | CHOM Affordable Housing | Portland

This building is an embarrassment, especially in such a high profile location. We get exactly as much as we demand.

Portland Foreside | 58 Fore Street | Portland

Hopefully this project will be built as these renderings show. But as they say .... the fat lady ain't sung yet.

It definitely sounds as though their proposal will be underwhelming. Such a waste of waterfront(ish) property.

    USM | Portland

Studzinski Recital Hall at Bowdoin College has nearly 3 times the capacity of what they are proposing at USM. Clearly insufficient for even their small program needs. The other venues available would often be too large for their programming.

    USM | Portland

For once I agree with you. This building is a nothing burger.

    Portland's Franklin Street redesign

Portland's myriad opportunities to see the bigger picture are quickly dwindling. They need to wake up and take all facets of urban design and planning seriously before it is no longer possible without having to throw stupid sums of cash at it.

    Portland's Franklin Street redesign

Unfortunately the Forest Ave corridor does not have the land resources to make it truly amenable to a full redesign as does Franklin. Franklin could truly be redesigned to make it worth the while to reclaim much of the land and turn it into an urban oasis. Besides I don't think Forest could...

    USM | Portland

That statement in itself is a terribly sad commentary on the state of architecture in the city.

The Armature | 52 Hanover St | Portland

    That's a real stretch .....

The Armature | 52 Hanover St | Portland

Ummmmm .... so ...... did anyone bother to look up the definition of armature before naming the place? LOL Doesn't seem to fit any known definition. It's certainly not a piece of art. They probably paid big bucks to the folks who name pharmaceuticals to come up with something.

Roux Institute Campus Development | Portland

This thing is as much a monstrosity as the USM Law Building.
