I like the look of the masonry panel piercing the cornice but am assuming these panels will also require some sort of capping to avoid water penetration.
I had my first opportunity to visit Sanford last fall and I was surprised that there was as much there as there is. I think there is a lot of potential in that area.
The creation of that pedestrian mall is still controversial among Helenans. A lot of historic Victorian architecture was razed to create the mall during urban renewal and it never became greatly successful as they had hoped.
Curious what street in Helena you are referring to .... I know Helena like the back of my hand and that poor town too was ravaged by urban renewal to create the Last Chance Gulch pedestrian mall.

at Bowdoin College has nearly 3 times the capacity of what they are proposing at USM. Clearly insufficient for even their small program needs. The other venues available would often be too large for their programming.
Portland's myriad opportunities to see the bigger picture are quickly dwindling. They need to wake up and take all facets of urban design and planning seriously before it is no longer possible without having to throw stupid sums of cash at it.
Unfortunately the Forest Ave corridor does not have the land resources to make it truly amenable to a full redesign as does Franklin. Franklin could truly be redesigned to make it worth the while to reclaim much of the land and turn it into an urban oasis. Besides I don't think Forest could...
Ummmmm .... so ...... did anyone bother to look up the definition of armature before naming the place? LOL Doesn't seem to fit any known definition. It's certainly not a piece of art. They probably paid big bucks to the folks who name pharmaceuticals to come up with something.
