Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos I can only think of one time when I had something similar happen: last summer heading inbound at Hynes, the operator would not open the back doors. That is most certainly atypical. What time were you riding?

Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

JetBlue will do fine in the BOS-PHL market I think. They have the critical mass in Boston to make it work whereas other carriers simply did not (Southwest, Airtran) or the route wasn't high enough priority to stick out (American, Delta). Now wishing they'd grow their network in the Midwest...

MBTA Public Info Meeting - Government Center

Can't imagine how horrendous the crowds will be at Park. Need to find a house somewhere off the Orange Line before they start this mess.

MBTA Public Info Meeting - Government Center

Anyone planning to go? I can't make it but am dying to know how they think Park will be able to handle all of that additional traffic coming its way.

    Congestion toll in Boston?

'Destroying the spirit of carpooling'? Give me a break. People who actually carpool still get to use the express lanes free of charge. All you do is send in a carpool registration. Not too terribly difficult. Net-net, though, they added a lane in each direction. Doing so meant no loss of...

Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

Considering how much American, Delta, United and US have all slashed Boston routes over the past few years, it's really not much of a stretch. They still have plenty of large and medium-sized markets in the Midwest and South that they could potentially serve from Boston: Minneapolis, Detroit...

    Congestion toll in Boston?

Yes, there were; they added a lane in each direction, restriped the roadway and designated the existing HOV lanes as the 'express lanes'.

    Congestion toll in Boston?

^ Adding an entirely new toll facility is not the same as tolling existing routes. This would only work if they added lanes to 93, for example.

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos Given the degree to which people are assuming the whole Green Line will implode if converted, one would only think that they would be doing something as foolish as overlaying CBTC using the current block layout. ;) Seeing what was actually presented...

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos I'm not familiar with the folly's of SEPTA's installation, but this is some interesting reading on the subject: San Francisco's CBA on CBTC...

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos If you would read what F-Line has written at least two or three times now, you wouldn't be repeating the same thing over and over again. Yes, if they simply dump the current block setup into the new system, it would result in a decrease in throughput...

    Congestion toll in Boston?

I wouldn't bet on it for the foreseeable future. The FHWA pilot was for three slots and they are all reserved: 70 in MO, 95 in VA and 95 in SC.

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos Vehicle throughput is irrelevant since one dispatch on the Green Line holds more than 10x the amount of people on one bus. Think about it this way: the Lincoln Tunnel only carries 50% more passengers but has to do so by making 1800+% more dispatches...

    Congestion toll in Boston?

I was about to draw up my own but it would have looked basically the same. :) How it would work: Put monitoring equipment on all surface streets leading into the zone and charge vehicles upon exiting 1/90/93/Storrow within the zone. Through traffic on 1/90/93/Storrow (defined as people...

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos An increase is an increase. CBTC on Paris's Line 1 resulted in a 20 percent reduction in headways (105 seconds to 85 seconds) and around a 20 percent increase in passenger throughput during peak periods. So, again, how will such a system in Boston...

    Congestion toll in Boston?

What kind of an area are you thinking of? All of Boston? Just Downtown and Back Bay? Something in between? London's congestion zone is only around one square so it isn't like we'd see literally every road into Boston under surveillance. Also, the goal of the congestion charge is to decrease...

    Congestion toll in Boston?

Current congestion pricing schemes aren't anywhere near as complex or intrusive as you describe. London charges a flat rate of £10 per day with discounts for vehicles registered as autopay, and higher rates if paid after the day of travel. You simply set up a boundary and charge any vehicle...

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos How do you figure upgrading the signal system to allow for more trainsets to pass through the system more efficiently do any of the three things you mentioned? It would do just the opposite. This was an interesting tidbit... I didn't realize this...

    Congestion toll in Boston?

One could argue that... but then again, another would argue that clearly neither time nor parking is valued high enough to reach an equilibrium. Traffic in Boston is still atrocious even with long travel times and high parking rates.

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos Yes, I suppose in theory they share a lot (both light rail, multiple routes which share a central subway section, etc.). but two major differences put the Green Line in a class all its own: it carries over 1.5x the amount of passengers that Muni Metro...
