I don't know the limits, but the (smaller and just as unattractive) banner at LoveJoy Wharf was up for > 2.0 yrs (and a piece of it, spanning two floors, for 2.5 yrs).

The apartment tower in CX's Lot I went to almost 240' without any steel accompaniment throughout the winter. Plus, as @JumboBuc stated, the core is a support component of the steel. ;)

Steel is at level 12, but has been stalled since Monday. A semi delivered a new hook block today, so I suspect there was either an 1) equipment failure or 2) a need to transition to a beefier block. No new trolley was part of the delivery.
