General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Those are some of the reasons I've always assumed no Needham Line station if an OLX happens.

Residences at Readville Station | 1717-1725 Hyde Park Ave | Hyde Park

Readville would be a great location for that kind of upzoning with some large TOD projects. The number of trains that do and could stop there is significant and is really a perfect place for a more outlying high density neighborhood.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

I agree that would work if the goal were to have both CR and OL, but it just never occurred to me that the Needham Line station would be preserved or reconfigured. I guess the question is whether enough riders would prefer transferring to Orange at Roslindale (or just deboarding to do things in...

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

Musk knows absolutely nothing about building multi track train scale tunnels. And the conflict of interest is obviously significant.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

I've always assumed that an OLX+1 to Rozzie would eliminate the CR station that is currently there.

Thanks, this is really helpful. I definitely found the part about time table construction to be quite illuminating, along with quite a bit of the other pieces. Overall, it seems like this can push the conversation closer to a consensus plan and therefore better activisim.

    2025 Boston Mayoral Race

This, and all of your other points. Better results in the earlier grades would make more kids ready for a college prep curriculum, which as you note, does not necessarily mean a BLS type of setting. Improve the middle schools especially, and then increase college prep offerings at all the high...

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

I'm convinced on the unsuitability of 16 car trains, but what do you think about the rest of the proposal? Although more knowledgeable than the average man on the street, I definitely don't have the knowledge base to critically evaluate the report. That said, from my semi-informed layman's point...

    Local Politics Thread

One of the big problems with Lynch is that he usually runs unopposed. Roath seems to have some strong progressive bona fides, that can hopefully pull Lynch further in that direction. And maybe the challenge can actually succeed? I don't know Roath either, but a few people I do know have a pretty...

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

Maybe I'm a bit funny this way, but I think I'd rather the MBTA focus on getting the schedules and other operational needs where they need to be first. Also, the city can probably work on the trash issue with just a touch of coordination between it and the 'T.

DCR Allston-Brighton Riverfront Parks and Parkways

The pedestrian and bike routes need to not only be separate, but the pedestrian path needs to be both more appealing and more obvious than the bike route. Most of the Southwest Corridor involves separated, parallel paths, but very few people use the pedestrian path, so the de facto result is the...

    Biking in Boston

From an article in streetsblog, new planning calls for a wider, 18 foot deck. This is an important change, given that it will be heavily used by both bike riders and pedestrians. 18 feet should be wide enough for the dual use purpose, whereas the original 10-12 feet proposal would have been...

Copley Square Revamp | Back Bay

How hard would it have been for WCVB to show a rendering of the complete design? This report was about as useful as one reporting complaints that a building under construction wasn't already providing housing for people.

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

I'm not familiar with Fall River at all, but from looking at things on google maps, I suspect very few people (including myself) would make the walk from the station to the Tipsy Tobogan or any of the other interesting sounding places near there (brewery, tiki bar). I would definitely bike it...

    Biking in Boston

I'm going to try one more time, then disengage from this. You are arguing against a strawman. As @thepixelnation pointed out, there is no street B, so it's not a question of prioritizing where people ride vs where people do not ride. There is a singular route, one that could be a decent option...

    Biking in Boston

I'm not clear what you are saying here. Are you saying that it is incorrect to conclude that mode share is static? Or are you saying that it's incorrect to suggest that it isn't? To be clear, I'm suggesting that it isn't. Change the infrastructure and the mode share will change. We've seen this...

The Smith | 660 Harrison Avenue | South End

I was interpreting the comment differently -- that we shouldn't have programs to help the poor. Most of what you describe, I'd consider to be programs to help the poor.
