Alexandra Hotel Renovation | 1769 Washington St | Roxbury

I prefer the facedectomy with tower proposal, for density reasons. But really, the imperative action here is saving the building. This proposal is more likely to gain approval and community support, so build it, and build it soon.

Bill Russell Bridge | North Washington St.

The night lighting is really spectacular. I saw it lit up for the first time Sunday night and it really stole the view coming in to the area on 93 from the north.

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

As for the post office, while not a private corporation, it essentially functions like one already. And unlike Amtrak, it's Constitutionally established, so I don't think Musk can simply privatize it on a whim. Complete jackass.

Biking the Boston 'Burbs (Trails, MDC, & Towns beyond Hubway area)

Yes, because why would you want to attract visitors who spend money to your local businesses.

Unless the flex posts are slated to be replaced with real bollards, then this is a significant problem.

Now if only we can get to where the inside is even just not dim and grungy.

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

Agreed. And I might be a minority on this, but I think the argument TM is making here is not persuasive. They point out percentage time improvement on a very short segment of bus lane, but the actual time savings is measured in seconds. If somebody told me I had to pick a bus lane to eliminate...

Biking the Boston 'Burbs (Trails, MDC, & Towns beyond Hubway area)

Oh, this is exciting! Any way for us to get a preview of locations and schedule? I tend to enjoy riding past the sensors, just to help the data out.

    St. Petersburg, FL

I was in the area last year for Spring Training, but only visited the St Pete side of the bay for an afternoon to watch the Red Sox play the Phillies at Bay Care Park. My sense was that it would make for a pretty interesting more general visit, but the baseball schedule dictated where I was each...

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

I guess it kind of depends what you think they mean by the term ornate arches. The arches are ornamented, so that what we can see is not structural. But just the same, the arches underneath the visual component are indeed what support the rest of the building. You can see this quite clearly in...

Maybe lay off the bong for a bit, I promise the pictures will be better sized.

    2025 Boston Mayoral Race

The cop endorsement came after the polling was done. But it's things like getting such endorsements that are far more telling than any polls at this point in the race anyway.

    2025 Boston Mayoral Race

Kraft has an inherent conflict of interest regarding White Stadium, since his brother is on record as saying that BOS Nation FC should play in Everett.

Idea for fixing the housing shortage

Nothing about a ban on single family zoning prevents construction of single family housing. It's not a ban on the form, it's a ban on a zoning requirement that mandates that form.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Nope, read what I said again. I'm arguing that it's a 41 year inflation time line plus hedging for unknown factors.

    Biking in Boston

Yeah, and the place where the reporter chose to ask for anecdotes was on Next Door, not exactly a bastion of urbanism. Some bike activists saw it and many did send her commentary, but I don't think she used much of it. What bothered me most about the article, though, is the line about demanding...

    Roslindale Infill and Small Developments

The convoluted process is all done to placate the NIMBYs who are distinctly not the majority population in Roslindale. That said, as a visioning process, I think it did a pretty good job and also to some extent gave us ammunition against the NIMBY response, which has been fairly muted.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

That's not what I meant by reasonable, sorry. I used it to mean that the estimate probably is in the right ball park for what it would in fact cost.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

And that's likely to inflate significantly further over the next 15 years to get to the real price tag. So again, the $30 billion is probably not too far off, especially when we don't know the funding source. If the state has to issue bonds, for example, then there is also a large financing...
