Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

GLX construction and missteps therein have nothing to do with the last two accidents. The last derailment was caused by operator error and speeding through a double-red signal while a switch was in-process of being thrown...no physical faults. And this rear-ender collision looks like something...

    Biking in Boston

Beyond a certain level of financing he's already well got, how much does PAC-level money even matter in a Boston mayoral race? It's not like the office is going to be won or lost on TV advertising; local politics here just doesn't work like that. You've got to be able to pound the pavement and...

New Red and Orange Line Cars

Nothing is "on-hold". Red and Orange have each been averaging 1 pair per month of new deliveries for about 6 months now. CRRC is going too slow on deliveries for both lines, but it's only biting Red in the butt because the CRRC's are such a small percentage of the Red fleet while Orange now...

    MBTA Construction Projects

The New Flyer XE40 is an off-shelf make with numerous buyers, so they're probably not backed up on manufacturing. It's more that with a lack of facilities progress there's just not a whole lot the T can do with them right now except putter around a couple demonstrators to test winter charging...

    Biking in Boston

I don't even know who he's pandering to with this bike lanes nonsense. A fear-based plea centered around "bike lanes = congestion" is pretty much only going to appeal to someone who never sees the city outside the window of a car, who drives everywhere including Downtown and the Financial...

Is this guy trying to get elected Mayor of Stoneham?

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I don't know about most of them, but SEPTA uses a fairly modern install of ATO very similar to our Red/Orange lines. The T used that as a cautionary tale on what they were not looking for with GLTPS because the SEPTA system ended up reducing their central subway's overall throughput.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

The German firm that won the 2018 contract blew lots of deadlines and had near-zero progress to show at the time the T terminated the contract last summer, so they probably over-promised.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

The contract had to go out to rebid with tweaked specs because the original vendor couldn't do it. Re-proposals were due in August, but I don't know if there's been an award yet. It's going to be done in two phases...Phase I is just a warning system overlaid on top of the existing operator...

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

Proximity to Canton Jct. which gets twice the service. CJ does 1115 daily boardings.

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

Probably not very feasible, as the Easton ridership wasn't that high in the 2003 FEIR. North Easton was projected at 460 daily boardings, and Easton Village was only 150 daily boardings. This is compared to 917 daily boardings at Stoughton and 470 daily boardings at Canton Center in the 2018...

South Norwalk - General Photos , Projects & Construction

ConnDOT was commissioned to do a study on restoration of that Danbury Branch station in 2018, but AFAIK there's been no action on it since.

MBTA Winter 2015: Failure and Recovery

Multi-Family Zoning Requirements for MBTA Communities

No, there isn't. You keep repeating these falsehoods every single time a Red-Mattapan topic gets breached, and it gets no less wrong every time you repeat it. The engineering record from the High Speed Line's 1928 conversion explicitly provisions for eventual conversion to HRT should the grade...

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

Rochester only has 2 garage bays total, and they do shakedown testing for new and freshly-rebuilt or accident-repaired coaches too so there's rarely more than 1 loco in the shop at a time (right now it's the stored GP40MC's they're incrementally rehabbing back to service). And it's not much of...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Not likely. Brightline works because the holding company that owns the railroad owns a ton of land around the stations, and is banking on huge amounts of TOD to enrich its portfolio more than the passenger rail service. Amtrak is a tenant carrier most of the places it runs, so it has no other...

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

It will ultimately require that when that freestanding deck starts settling out of alignment in about 10-12 years and scores of similar-construction temp highs in this blitz go out-of-ADA compliance en masse. Then the MAAB will throw down the gauntlet demanding perma fixes or else no more...

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

The City does not have a "moratorium" on diesel maint facilities. They can't put a moratorium on it because only the feds have the right to regulate railroads using railroad property. Menino found that out the hard way when he huffed and puffed and failed miserably to try to block the original...

MassDOT Rail: Springfield Hub (East-West, NNERI, Berkshires, CT-Valley-VT-Quebec)

https://www.wwlp.com/news/local-news/hampden-county/site-selected-for-future-palmer-train-station-view-map-here/amp/ Site selected for Palmer Station. They went with the "Location B" that's closest to the historic depot, which is a bit of relief considering how far out of Downtown the other...

Regional New England Rail (Amtrak & State DOT & NEC)

Given that VTrans's #1 pax rail priority in the state is getting the Vermonter re-extended to Montreal, there would be zero interest in such a self-kneecapping reroute. There's a large ridership affinity between Vermont and Quebec, and Essex Junction already has Green Mountain Transit bus #2...
