I think so, although I believe some changes were just announced to the seaport ferry service.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

It's a corridor that's well suited to this type of approach. You could run a 97, 104 (after SL3X), and 109 each every 30-45 minutes but still get a good bus service along the busiest part of Broadway.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

If it's connected up to the Grand Junction I would add Sweetser Circle as well. I definitely think it's the most likely place for a yard, and if it's not an OL branch then it's not double dipping on bus connections to Wellington, it's adding new connectivity to Cambridge. It also still gets a...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Strong agree. There isn't really any need to go all the way to Linden, Northgate, Saugus, or any other northern terminus if the ridership isn't there. The only reason you might want to do that would be yard space, but Sweetser Circle is just a better spot for that regardless. But just to price...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

This article explains it better. There were two schemes going on. Invoice fraud: Pigsley's friend would buy things using his company, then that company would submit falsified invoices to Keolis for 'work done' or some other false pretenses, Keolis with reimburse the friend, then Pigsley would...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Here's the 104 data from Fall 2023. In terms of ons+offs Broadway outpaces Ferry St by almost 2:1 in ridership. The Ferry St segment is generally quite low in ridership generally, with Rich/Belmont and to a lesser extent Harvard/Winthrop being the exceptions. Being roughly 15 minutes walking...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Here's the 109 outbound data. If we just put stations at the 'spikey' stops, then the stations would be at: Dexter St (Encore) Sweetser Circle 2nd St/School St (Everett Sq or renamed, I vote Carrington after Walter Carrington.) High St/Hancock St Ferry St (Glendale) Lynn St (Woodlawn) Eastern...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

If we assume a normal capacity of 900 pax per train, and 10 TPH, then in 2019 the northern OL was around 2/3 of its maximum capacity of what it would have as a branch, assuming three minute headways on the trunk. If we use the crush capacity of 1350 pax per train it was at a bit less than 50% of...

Again, not surprising given the space constraints.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Keep in mind this does not take into account bus-bus transfers, and doesn't isolate only the Everett stops, just routes that go through Everett. I highly doubt that 65% of Sullivan's ridership comes from people coming from Everett, for example. Here's the list of routes for each station...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

I think either myself or @Teban54 looked into this at some point and the data suggested that very little Malden Center ridership came from Everett. Most Everett buses go into Sullivan or Wellington so this isn't terribly surprising. I'll put it on the to-do list though, it should be doable since...

Roads and Highways General Development Thread

Even pretty shallow speed bumps are a PITA (literally) if you're cycling. The only ones I've encountered that are fine when you're cycling are the super shallow moped ones which just feel like a little roller coaster.

    Reasonable Transit Pitches

I think so? You'd need to do something about the building there, I'm not sure if it's signalling or ops or whatever, F-Line probably knows.

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

Unclear, I don't think there's ever been a full study done. $800m would likely be on the lower side given that the Terminal B garage would need to be rebuilt and also that the whole airport is a spaghetti mess.

no but you could piece together the Pink Line and BLX West and you'd roughly get the same thing. I've made a crude Metro Maker map in the "Transport along the Grand Junction" thread.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

I would consider any branch of the OL that doesn't serve Malden Center to be a complete non-starter, which obviously limits the possibilities a lot. If there's going to be an Everett Subway I think the clear continuation is the Aqua Line to Watertown and Waltham via Kendall.

Everett Transportation (SL3 extension, potential OLX/GLX, Sweetser Circle infill station)

But maybe an equally crazy idea, what if you did a diversion or possibly branch like this: This would allow the Orange Line to serve new areas of Malden (and a tiny bit of Everett) without removing service to Malden Center. (although Oak Grove gets anywhere from 50%-100% shafted, depending on...
