Multi-Family Zoning Requirements for MBTA Communities

Not that this could happen, but the right version of this would be okay, we'll disconnect your streets from the rest of the road network.

La CASA | 85 West Newton Street | South End

And I really like the way they did it, too. They used the color palette to achieve some contextual balance, but also managed a structure that is new and bold in many of the design elements. This will look fantastic if built as rendered.

La CASA | 85 West Newton Street | South End

It's a shame the All Saints building couldn't have been preserved, but that sort of stewardship would require resources nobody was interested in committing. Villa Victoria did what they could, but most of their funding is donor restricted to other purposes. The good news is that some great...

80-100 Smith Street | Mission Hill

A lot of the reported livability issues in San Francisco, though perhaps based on a kernel of truth, are nevertheless highly inaccurate. They are driven by a political agenda more than by a reality basis.

MBTA "Transformation" (Green Line, Red Line, & Orange Line Transformation Projects)

Plate 003 really illustrates just how much a Lynn BLX would have made sense. And Plate 015 just makes me want to cry.

Franklin Park - White Stadium Renovation

That point probably goes without saying, but the reminder is certainly appropriate. Yes, a good deal is only valuable if it's also affordable. The city's operating budget for FY25 is $4.64 billion. I don't have the financing details, so I don't know whether there will be a bond issue vs some...

MGH Ragon Building | 55 Fruit Street | West End

I already said what I had to say on this tangent, but it's probably worth noting that "you people," which I agree is a loaded term, is not the same as what @kmp1284 said, which was, "people like you." You are free to take that as meaning the same, but in this case, I'm pretty sure the meaning...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Comm Ave or Beacon Street? You can certainly send the C-Line trains to Comm Ave via the connection on Chestnut Hill Ave. But I think of Newton Center as being on Beacon Street, not Comm Ave. Why not just extend on Beacon for this NIMBY infuriating idea?

Franklin Park - White Stadium Renovation

They are paying for half of it, and in return get to use it about 25 times a year. They will also be paying for maintenance as part of their lease terms. It's a good deal for the city, because it gets a complete renovation for half the price, without giving up too much field time for BPS athletes.

West Roxbury Infill and Small Developments

Yeah, I noticed over the weekend that a temporary electrical feed had been wired and a construction office trailer had been positioned on the edge of the lot. This is great news!

Franklin Park - White Stadium Renovation

No, I'm not 100% sure. There has definitely been a communication problem, but I saw some information posted by Mayor Wu on BlueSky that implies there are add-ons that ballooned the cost. The bolded portion is what I believe was the original scope. Link to the BlueSky Thread.

    Bowker Overpass replacement?

I had always assumed that wall was structural, now it's definitely a mystery as to why it was even there.

Franklin Park - White Stadium Renovation

I think there is a lot of confusion about why the cost went up, and too many are assuming it's some sort of boondoggle as a result. But the budget for renovating one half of the stadium didn't substantially change. What did change is the scope for the project, which now includes several...

    Biking in Boston

I don't necessarily find it safer than Boston or Camberville, but it's definitely no worse. Brookline has built a lot of decent bike infrastructure, and to some extent got there first. Washington St. has long been a glaring gap in these efforts, but otherwise, I think (at least North of Route 9)...

MBTA "Transformation" (Green Line, Red Line, & Orange Line Transformation Projects)

I actually think Allston Street makes more sense for elimination than Griggs.

Corey Hill works. Griggs Park is too similar to Griggs Road on the B-Line.

MassDOT Rail: Springfield Hub (East-West, NNERI, Berkshires, CT-Valley-VT-Quebec)

The suggestion was that Amtrak should be able to achieve the speeds mentioned in the Transit Matters report, but those are only possible with EMUs. Therefore, Amtrak will not achieve those speeds.

Franklin Park - White Stadium Renovation

What makes you think you can do anything meaningful for $30 million? Inflation adjusted, the field upgrades at WREC cost over $25 million. Renovating White Stadium would be substantially more expensive than that. The city could end up spending close to $100 million just for that, when you...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

I've always thought Columbia Road might be a decent candidate. It's wide, there is a high population density, and it connects well to UMass and the Red Line on one end. Going the other direction, I'm not sure what you do with it when it reaches Blue Hill Ave., but it would be nice to find a way...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Dover is actually a fun place to ride. Getting there, though, is somewhat problematic, which is why I only ride in Dover as part of a large group ride, where numbers = visibility.
