    "Dirty Old Boston"

That’s a gas holder for storing coal gas. It appears to be located at or near the Mystic power plant.

MBTA Fare System (Charlie, AFC 2.0, Zone, Discounts)

It’s Cubic remixing their kit of parts from the MTA. I’m not surprised given the requirements or the contractor.

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

How does the new routing align with the BNRD proposals?

Kendall Common ( née Volpe Redevelopment) | Kendall Sq | Cambridge

We have both kinds of cranes: construction and demolition.

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

My guess is that quick serve food uses encourage loitering by non-travelers.

Photo of the Day, Boston Style: Part XIX (2025)

These two make brutalism look good. I need to invent a time machine, go back to my first year studio class, show them the photos, and say to my instructor “I get it now…”.

MXD Residential Tower | 121 Broadway | Kendall Square

Pretty soon this perch won’t be good for capturing progress on this site.

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

I rode the Acela this week. The trains are really showing their age. The trays are very temperamental and the bathrooms are really worn. However, I would still spring for first class Acela over any of the flights down to NYC. I’m hoping that the Avelias don’t get caught up in politics and my...

The Porter Square building is going to be a hotel. This one isn’t being built by Young Construction, so it should be completed before the heat death of the sun.

Lyra (née The Huntington) | 252/258/264 Huntington Avenue | Fenway

I like how the top of the swept bay matches the cornice line of the Huntington Theater. I’m a little wary of the solid panels on the party wall. In the gray overcast they read a bit plasticky.

Alewife Park | 36-64 Whittemore Ave. | Cambridge

This one looks ready to remove the fences. Just in time for the bike path to close for reconstruction.

West Cambridge / Alewife Area Infill & Small Developments

I wish the ribbon windows included mullions that matched the blue striping on the temporary tarps. It would give it a deco or streamline moderne look that would stand out more than the cheap office park vibe.

Photo of the Day, Boston Style: Part XIX (2025)

100 Landsdowne was the final piece of University Park. It was delayed due to an ill-fated attempt to shift its program from housing to office space for the dotcom bubble. The market crashed before they could get financing on that, so they went back to housing.

    320 Charles Street | Cambridge

Taking its inspiration from the Merative/Watson Health building on Rogers across from Toomey Park.

Kendall Common ( née Volpe Redevelopment) | Kendall Sq | Cambridge

Were the low-rise wings of the old Volpe a later addition? With them demolished the design idea of the tower feels clearer.
