Hood Business Park | 480-570 Rutherford Avenue | Charlestown

I see this building relatively often, and I honestly thought it was incomplete. Hopefully the parking-garage heads at that development company are losing their shirts!

    Eliminate the River Roads?

Do we have a priority list of projects? Has anyone on this forum tried to rank the large capital project proposals based on what "should" be done first, cost, etc?

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

Here's my other pitch, two alts selected. This is about 1.5 miles. Run the tracks down the middle of the road, or off to the side. It's all low-traffic areas. Cuts like a hundred miles out of the equation. We used to run fregiht trains in the middle of the road in Boston. Way easier in the suburbs.

I-90 Interchange Improvement Project & West Station | Allston

This is wishful thnking, but I can't help but think if we had a more functional civil engineering corps when it came to rail transit (or even in general) we would not have this problem. Random ideas that come to mind... 1) Temporary bridges. Probably the T can withstand 1-2 day long stretches...

    Dover, NH Development thread

This has been a long long time coming. So long, that I don't even live there anymore.

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Apologies if this has been brought up before -- I moved to a place where my closest stop is the Union Square green line stop. When I take the train outbound to there 2 out of the last 3 times the train has stopped short of the platform for about 10 minutes, presumably to wait for platform space...

    MBTA Construction Projects

Not sure if this has been posted anywhere yet, but we are seeing some organized opposition to this project. This is not the only screed that has been posted, either.

North Station, Charles River Draw, & Tower A

I believe I read on one of the old presentations that the machinery is obsolete and very hard to maintain in working condition

I am still not convinced that this project rounds up to half a billion dollars.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Someone was saying earlier an automated light metro would be cool. Kind of a green line+. Another idea that I thought was cool was using the same station design several times, kind of digging boxes and building the same thing with minor adjustments.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

The arg is as the other poster said above, if you believe that the cost of fare collection and the cost of fare enforcement is greater than the revenue it recoups, then it only makes sense to do so as a punishment for riders (who are generally poorer). It's like when you ride WMATA and you get...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

We are a bit like NYC in that democracy has decayed pretty heavily. The reasons we got Eng are basically whoever had Healey's ear at the time. So we need to do elite persuasion, so that's 1) the mysterious "advocates" that have an elevated voice for what agencies listen to 2) the politician...

    🔹 What's Happening With Project X?

I think most harvard projects end up in the enterprise research campus thread. From what you said it looks like this one will near the square? That's cool.

Nothing life changing, just some appreciation for Track 1!

Middlesex County Courthouse Redevelopment | 40 Thorndike St | East Cambridge

Not sure if this was clear but construction fencing has been largely removed so you can go check this out pretty close in person if you like. I also spotted an energy recovery ventilator in the building so looks like some high efficiency hvac going on which couldn’t have been cheap.

MBTA Fare System (Charlie, AFC 2.0, Zone, Discounts)

Luckily it seems like this can be realistically reconfigured if the T wishes to do it. I would assume they understand concerns about fare evasion and are used to the bus driver being at the front to demand payment. Definitely a wait and see situation

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

My fellow Lechmere heads will be interested in this story. This fence gate is brand new! For the past year there has been no fence gate, and people cut through the gap in the fence to walk from the sidewalk to the bus loop and thus to the train. Clearly the gate was planned for, but forgotten...

Hurley Building Redevelopment | 19 Staniford St | West End

Logically yes this would be OK as long as it could be activated street level wise. However I think there is a ton of value to be had in destroying the temples and monuments of urban renewalists. If they say, "well, what we did was bad, but at least we got these sick buildings out of it!" you...

Hurley Building Redevelopment | 19 Staniford St | West End

As long as we leave this building and its friends, city hall and the flat part of the JFK building stand, we are letting the urban renewal guys win. Stop giving them what they want! Let’s have a city with real buildings built by developers trying to make money, not whatever that is.
