    Unbuilt Highways in Massachusetts

I learned about this major unbuilt highway a few years ago and was really fascinated by it. It was proposed to be I-92 and would've spanned from the New York border in VT to potentially the Canadian border in Calais, ME. I know it's outside of MA but I think this highway would have had major...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

This isn’t accurate. Typical bridge paint can’t rust, but a chip in it exposes the steel which can lead to rust. Surface rusting isn’t really a big deal but it is still corrosion and will continue to spread if not chipped and painted over eventually. What you really need to start worrying about...

Cape Cod Rail, Bridges and Highways

Right, by main parking lot for Woods Hole I meant the one on Palmer Ave, immediately north of the Falmouth Depot. The shuttle already exists to bring people from there to the ferry landing

Cape Cod Rail, Bridges and Highways

The good news is the ROW to the main parking lot for Woods Hole ferries is intact, albeit paved over with a bikeway. A station could be located there, near the old Falmouth station, and a shuttle can bring passengers right to the ferry.

Cape Cod Rail, Bridges and Highways

https://www.bostonglobe.com/2023/01/04/metro/federal-government-again-rejects-cape-bridge-replacement-funds/ Unfortunate news, but I can’t say I’m too surprised considering they announced $2.1B to four different states. Considering these bridges require a grant for almost that much… but why not...

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

I was pleased to see this a while back, it’s at least a step in the right direction!

    Bowker Overpass replacement?

at a critical traffic point to the city's main hospitals, I'd say ambulances sitting in gridlock traffic would not be a good thing.

MBTA "Transformation" (Green Line, Red Line, & Orange Line Transformation Projects)

That’s correct. According to NETransit MBTA vehicle inventory, the #12 cars were numbers 1200-1319. Similarly, the #14 cars will be numbers 1400-1551 once they’ve all been delivered. Here’s the site with this info: http://roster.transithistory.org/

If You Were God/Goddess | Transit & Infrastructure Sandbox

I know RedX has been much discussed with an alignment taking over the GL to Medford in some distant future, but what if it turned after NS and followed a Tobin tunnel alignment? You could have a huge transfer station at Chelsea with a park and ride for Rt 1

Are you suggesting tearing down the last tenement for an on-ramp?!

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

Amtrak did have a plan to build a bypass around the curvy Shore Line route, from Rhode Island to Old Saybrook. This would presumably bring the track to FRA Class 9, but was ultimately dropped circa 2017 due to concerns about a tunnel under Old Lyme’s historic center. I think a better bypass...

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

Right, I’ll admit that was speculation on my part since they’re compatible with NJT. It would definitely be worth looking into though

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

Brattle Loop summed this up well as I was typing. I agree wholeheartedly that there needs to be a paradigm shift. The great thing about the new NJT MLV EMU order (which may be the only option) is they will be compatible with simple trailer cars like we already have. I think this is the best bet...

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

I don’t see why they can’t order more multilevel cars, especially if they would be operable with bi-level EMU’s. 2030 seems like an aggressive timeline for OLX to Needham AND Reading, considering past projects

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

FWIW there’s an open RFI on the MBTA site for EMU vehicles and operations. It makes no mention of BEMU’s or battery power. Could mean nothing but I thought it was interesting to see it more focused on strictly EMU

    Portland International Jetport | PWM

To be fair, the justification for the diversion was related to the airport operations or lack thereof.

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

I really have limited knowledge of diesel/battery locomotives, but maybe someone with more knowledge could answer this. Would it be possible in concept to convert a locomotive from diesel to battery/diesel hybrid with OCS charging capability? Would it be too heavy? The smaller Diesel engine can...

    Green Line Reconfiguration

I know I’m just jumping in to a long conversation… but this has been on my mind for a while now. Considering we’ve been discussing a “Gold Line” for a bit now as a circuitous route, why not make Gold Line stations long enough for 3 Type 10’s (336’) for long-term capacity? I’ve always thought...

    Portland International Jetport | PWM

But what if there was an express bus (similar to Logan Express or Concord) operating directly from L/A, Brunswick to PWM? That might entice people and would be at a fraction of the cost of upgrades to either airport. I just think there are a lot of other ways to maximize the utility of PWM...
