    Portland International Jetport | PWM

I would think a better investment would be not to expand the Brunswick and L/A airports, but to increase public transit options from PWM to both cities.

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

So if electrification of Providence/Fairmount/Salem lines are coming in the supposed near future, shouldn’t the T be thinking about dual-mode locomotives now? I’ve heard a lot of talk about EMU’s but wouldn’t these be a sort of novelty until all lines are electrified? Dual-modes could use all...

MBTA "Transformation" (Green Line, Red Line, & Orange Line Transformation Projects)

As part of the Fenway Center master plan, there is another building that will span over the pike/railroad from the tower to Ortiz Bridge. I'm assuming this will also include a pedestrian walkway to the station, similar to the one to Beacon St

MBTA "Transformation" (Green Line, Red Line, & Orange Line Transformation Projects)

Maybe they'll be repurposing some of the catenary components to be used as overhead charging stations for BEB's?

Roux Institute Campus Development | Portland

Roux sent their Master Plan to the city today. Some really cool renderings and site development plans in here, plus some initial traffic studies for the area.

    Portland Passenger Rail

MaineDOT recently released their three-year work plan and in it includes money for two passenger rail studies: $200k transit propensity study for enhanced transit (incl. rail) for Portland-Bangor and $180k for (another) economic feasibility study for commuter/passenger rail for...

I believe that central bump is part of the engine/exhaust system

    Portland Passenger Rail

Most likely. That’s what I figured would be used, my comment was tongue-in-cheek as I would certainly not expect brand new DMU’s to ply the old Midcoast branch anytime soon

    Portland Passenger Rail

Interesting that they plan on using DMU’s “used with great success between Dallas and Fort Worth”. Does that mean they will be using a train like this between Brunswick and Rockland?

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

Fair point, but you’d only be moving the start of the incline max 1500’ south of the proposal I was responding to. If you end the GL extension at a station just south of High st, you could have a trenched CR station and eliminate subterranean.

MBTA Commuter Rail (Operations, Keolis, & Short Term)

What if instead you started the incline on the other side of the Mystic? That way you can open up the historic bridge and ROW past that to run the green line to W Medford. The commuter rail can have a two-track bore directly underneath the ROW and Mystic, a station below the current W Medford...

    Crazy Transit Pitches (Maine Edition)

One idea I thought of, as an alternative to using the SLR line as a relocated PAR mainline, was to convert that and the Westbrook line to light rail. Phase 1 could go from the Exit 15 park n ride in Yarmouth to downtown Westbrook, going through downtown as shown in the figure below. If the...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Thanks for the feedback everyone, it was great to read everyone's take on NSEWRL. Responding to a few of the questions above: I should clarify that I made a few assumptions which would definitely be prerequisites before the EW tunnel would be justified. I chose the preferred MassDOT option...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Well unfortunately people still live in the suburbs and always will. Maybe this project isn’t as important as a base NSRL but that doesn’t mean that it won’t be post RUR, we are in Crazy Transit Pitches last time I checked. I also think increasing public transit is part of a sustainable...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

I think the need to transfer to local transit is the exact reason that people (say outside 128) do not use public transit to get to the airport. Having a regional rail link to the airport wouldn’t directly benefit those who live in Boston and immediate communities, like an urban ring or GL to...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Hey everyone, I found out about this website quite a while ago and have been browsing regularly, but decided it was time to register and start adding my two cents. I’m a Structural Engineer at a large firm in Boston and want to make clear that everything I post is mine and in no way related to...
