The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Sorry, I wasn't suggesting you made it B&W and yes you are correct. I forgot that newspapers were the primarily channel for news in the 90s. How times have changed.

The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

I know black and white photos are all the rage when depicting the past or for dramatic effect but Jesus, this building was constructed in the early 1990s, not the 1950s. I know, I know, first world problems.

It's also the lack of setbacks. Both Chicago and NYC have a large collection of mid-size towers that looks much taller due to the fact that they are set back correctly. That being said, much of the setback design came during the art-deco era, of which Boston seemingly missed out entirely.

ACC/NU Residence Hall | 840 Columbus Ave | Northeastern University

Dshoost, I'm not saying that the city ask Northeastern to do the same thing that they are asking developers do in Boston when building apartments. I'm asking Northeastern and their leaders to dedicate a percentage of their new build dorms to be standard dorms, something along the lines, for our...

ACC/NU Residence Hall | 840 Columbus Ave | Northeastern University

To clarify, the $400-$600 is an example going rate of what can be had at Mission Hill if you have a shared bedroom. I'm not calling for Northeastern to build dorms at that low rate. I'm calling for Northeastern to build more of their standard rate rooms which are coming in at around $1000/mo...

ACC/NU Residence Hall | 840 Columbus Ave | Northeastern University

If you want to get projects to be fast tracked without fierce resistance and endless delays, you address both concerns at the same time. It's pretty simple here and that's the argument I'm making. They should both be a priority.

Your maybe is a good example which obviously means these situations are driving up 2 bdrm apartments for families.

Dshoost, don't patronize me, it's because I'm an econ major that I know there is a lot more niche than the simplified view you project (i.e. the micro decisions that drive macro trends. These two types of economics have very different and often contradicting dynamics. Most people seem to be...

ACC/NU Residence Hall | 840 Columbus Ave | Northeastern University

The new dorms are too expensive for a sizable portion of the student body, hence why so many students choose/forced to live off campus. Read my other post: I can tell you they have no intention to "lower" the cost of housing. They will just not build additional dorms. It's unfortunate that...

Pinnacle at Central Wharf (Harbor Garage) | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

I think this is more about airport hub rather than city of importance and in that case, I would count Logan, and by extension, Boston, as secondary, likely to the ones in NYC.

ACC/NU Residence Hall | 840 Columbus Ave | Northeastern University

I think at one point, NU is given the option to purchase the building (at least this is the case for East Village), when their credit line frees up and can do so. Hence why they want to keep the land.

ACC/NU Residence Hall | 840 Columbus Ave | Northeastern University

Most likely, the reason Northeastern didn't build the dorm themselves is because they have maxed out their credit line so they have a 3rd party pay for the construction of the dorm and they just rent from them. I believe that was how East Village was built which they also don't own.

Here's the breakdown of the most recent rate for NU's dorm: https://www.northeastern.edu/housing/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Upperclassmen-Rates-2020-2021.1.pdf Keep in mind, these rates are per semester and each semester is equivalent to 4 months. At the minimum, the cheapest option is more...

ACC/NU Residence Hall | 840 Columbus Ave | Northeastern University

Clearly the fact enough students are choosing to live off campus rather than pay for these luxury dorms that it's causing rent to increase in the surrounding area show that, yes the average student does go to NU. I can also attest this is true being a student at NU in the early 2010s. I agree...

    Parcel 25 | Kneeland St | Chinatown

And how do businesses owned by POC establish a track record if the city continues to not offer them a contract? And Bostonians wonder why Boston still has the reputation of the most racist city in the US with pervasive ignorance like this. Mods, feel free to move these off-topic...

    Parcel 25 | Kneeland St | Chinatown

Wtf are you talking about? The fact that so few construction contracts go to companies owned by PoC shows that in the current environment, you get penalized for NOT BEING WHITE. Take your ignorance elsewhere. Jesus Christ, the moment the government tries to level the playing the field for other...

^^ I can't wait until they finish the State Street tower so that it can pull my attention from the hideous Verizon building. Good god is it hideous from this angle.

    Post-COVID Urbanism Discussion

I'm going to have to agree with kmp. There was a recent article talking about the trouble with NYC office vacancy in the coming years as companies after companies have moved past the "working at the office" era as it is not only going to make them more competitive at attracting talent, but the...
