    Portland's Franklin Street redesign

I like your idea. Here is some inspiration.... (And maybe add the "Cross Insurance" logo at the bottom so that they will pay for it.)

    Portland's Franklin Street redesign

Yes, but paper will be created and pushed despite. It's a step in the right direction (lol). I watched Musk joking in a recent interview that one of the Gov approvals he needed for a Space X launch took longer than to design and build the rocket. Are there any piping plover nests in Bayside...

    Portland's Franklin Street redesign

Okay, here we go... Worldwide engineering giant WSP USA, Inc. has been hired to figure this out, but hey, this is not an international airport or lower Manhattan. It's a busy street in Portland, Maine. By the time it's done, 2030 is the estimate, I'm betting the spend will be approaching $100...

    Portland International Jetport | PWM

The new terminal at La Guardia takes the cake with food costs. The typical over-processed tuna fish sandwich in a plastic to-go container: $24.95. A bottle of water? $14.95. I have a lot of mixed reviews on this terminal, but it does beat the old one with its 7-foot-high ceilings and...

    Portland International Jetport | PWM

Check this out. The older part of Terminal E in Houston (George Bush Int.) had these bland wide walkways so they put this bar and food area in to give it a bit more pop (and to make more money, of course). As airport bars go, this one is damn cool (pictures are from 7am so that's why it's not...

    Portland International Jetport | PWM

I'm curious how much the cost of this would have been had it been part of the 2009-2011 build. The Jetport seems to only build and improve to meet the needs of today, and so ignores tomorrow. They need to address parking and perhaps baggage claim. Adding more parking lots in a colder or rainy...

    General Portland Discussion

I love the Downeaster (for the romance with trains) but it's not realistic to depend on. I will take an Uber from North Station to Logan, but only if I have time to kill. The Blue Line transfer is somewhat inconvenient. And sometimes with the train "they get you." The track delays, or maybe they...

It's relative for Maine (a madhouse). It can get busy in this tiny terminal concurrent with the 6:30 NYC bus (the one I would take). Today, or post Covid, not so sure.

And it's the bus coming back from Logan too--hourly, as flights rarely land with a predictable time. Also, if full, they will sometimes add a second bus. During the holidays I took it from Portland to South Station to catch Amtrak to New Haven, and half-way across the Tobin Bridge it had been 91...

    Portland International Jetport | PWM

Great news. And belongs in the PWM thread because it's a Moxy brand and will have a hip rooftop terrace, therefore an excellent viewing platform of the jets landing during Happy Hour. The best viewing spot in the country for watching planes land? I'd choose The In-N-Out Burger next to LAX. Sit...

    General Portland Discussion

The Hardshore Distilling owner on Wash Ave, from Brooklyn, told me that "Portland is a suburb of Boston." He's in his late 30s? It's not about statistics here. It's about what people will do, and in today's nicer cars driving somewhere from 30 min up to 90 minutes is not much time at all. They...

I said nothing about taking trains up to Maine in this context. For concerts and sporting events, people from down south will drive up. It's a 90 minute or less drive. That is not a big deal for many people.

    465 Congress Street | Portland

Yes, GREAT news. The primary take-away from his interview is that better design, or MUCH BETTER DESIGN, can create a new and thriving social dynamic that people will come to.

    General Portland Discussion

One must look at Portland as a de facto suburb of Boston. It's primarily about revenue during the 7 months of the year that there are NO OUTDOOR ATTENDANCE SPORTS INCLUDING SOCCER OR BIGGER CONCERTS in all of New England and NY (except for the college facility at Syracuse University). If the...

    General Portland Discussion

Yes, all good points. But I would build bigger. 30,000 indoors because now you have a music venue to use for 12 months out of the year instead of maybe 5 (and no rain dates). TD Garden can seat maybe 20,000 with a 360-degree stage setup. 32,000 would be this new venue, and then similar...

Excellent interview with Jim Brady on how he got into development. I'm excited to see his upcoming projects; he puts so much thought into them. Listen to this podcast to understand.

I think an indoor soccer/music venue (30,000) would be a good idea here (the grassy areas behind JC Penny). There is more than enough parking (with an additional giant garage), restaurants, bars, lodging, and easy access from 95. And it's only 85 minutes to Boston barreling down that highway...

Like that rooftop space for the Mercy Hospital project. I was born in that hospital. Talk about a re-purpose 👏 https://liveredfern.com/buildings/nightingale/

It's realistic that perhaps Portland area resident Amy Allen can help with recruiting, showing up for a tutorial or two. Why wouldn't she? Her band was playing casual dates in Portland a few years ago. She says in her Grammys awards speech tonight for non-classical songwriter of the year, "The...
