South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Re: South Station Tower It's been a long time since I last posted, but I've been looking at this South Station tower development for quite some time, yet I cannot express enough frustration in its design- I'm so tired of those "soulless" glass structures being erected in Boston. Perhaps the...

    50 Liberty @ Fan Pier | 50 Liberty Drive | Seaport

Every time I see these new glass boxes I ask myself how they get to pass the IECC requirements......

Dot Block | Dot Ave, Greenmount St, Hancock St | Dorchester

Great project & solution- hope the vehicle parking on the street issue inherent to the area won't damage it

    City Hall Plaza

every time that I come across the "City Hall Plaza" dilemma" I often conclude that it should be either tore down completely & set an international competition for its design OR just get rid of the so called "Plaza" and build new structures around City Hall itself. When MW inks a 400K deal to...

101 Seaport Blvd (PwC) | Parcel L1@Seaport Sq. | Seaport

This project remains me of my college years when a professor of mine would call this approach as "the ultimate expression of how to abuse a specific material, its application & its construction method, as a result of a fixed fetish among the architects & developers behind it"

Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

Perhaps whoever designed those things should have bothered looking at some of the fine playgrounds work done by Aldo Van Eyck

Northeastern University - Institutional Master Plan

The building looks interesting, promising & refreshing by not recurring to the usual glass box trend dominating all new Boston's large developments

Do the Affordable Housing Laws Work?

the first question that comes to my mind is What is "affordable in Boston and its neighboring towns" anyways? While house prices remain high despite the current economy, there are few people buying new homes while the majority are either trying to sell or get something smaller. Then there is...

The Boulevard (née The Times/Littlest Bar) | 110 Broad St | Downtown

Re: 110 Broad St. (The Times/Littlest Bar) I'm all for progress & development, but I'm not quite impressed by the approach of this project at all. FOA, If the design intents to be that drastic, then why keep the existing small building at all? Perhaps setbacks? Zoning? Budget? then I have to...

Mayor Walsh Calls for Better Architecture/Urban Design

I truly applaud his words- well intentioned & hopefully embraced by the public eager to ask for "better" rather than "more" . The mayor has to realize that such ambitious plans must be backed by his own office as far as working along with city/Urban planners, Architects, community leaders etc...

    Poll: The Next Big Project

Urban Ring for me. I used to love the Commuter rail even with the limited service reach, but nowadays is simply "criminal" to pay such prices for a service in decline, with not improved at all & rather leans towards bankruptcy due to all the mismanagement done to it.

    Biking in Boston

Sadly the reality that you described is what Americans view of bicycling is merely for, but if Boston ever aspires to achieve a better & more sustainable bicycling orientated transport to the likes of Copenhagen or the Netherlands then "Learning" how to ride a bike in a city is fundamental...

101 Seaport Blvd (PwC) | Parcel L1@Seaport Sq. | Seaport

I dont' think Height has anything to do with the "overall design"- there are "great-well designed boxes" & there are"dumb boxes"... OTOH The box shape is directly proportional to the "business orientated model market" & the developers, in order to maximize profits at the expense of good design...

101 Seaport Blvd (PwC) | Parcel L1@Seaport Sq. | Seaport

So..... the rational about having a glazing box is merely "the views" :?: I support contemporary Architecture, but I simply refuse these new "dumb boxes" emerging across Boston without a solid reasoning behind their dull image....

    Biking in Boston

I'm all for alternatives to transport, specially bicycling, but I truly believe bike lines alone aren't sufficient if they're not accompanied by their corresponding infrastructure & proper planning, so bicycling commuters are "safer' & mostly "follow traffic flows" & "rules". Gee- I had the...

    City Hall Plaza

When I was reading the thread and found out about the Skating rink Idea- I had two thoughts: Does the city need a skating rink at that location?- and after reading some of the links- the Rockefeller plaza image came up...... I quite frankly believe it is a weak idea and rather like to see a...
