South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

To be honest, I've never paid much attention to the ceiling, but it is already a cavern with the light blockage from the construction.

    General Boston Discussion

Does anyone have the actual text of the measure? I've only been able to find 1000 articles about it, but I'd love to see exactly how it's worded. The devil's often in the details, and I don't particularly trust soundbite media to convey any nuance.

The details are interesting. Max increase of CPI change + 6%, with an upper limit of 10%. Exempt are owner occupied buildings with six units or less and any new buildings within 15 years of certificate of occupancy being issues. In my 15 minutes of searching, I couldn't find text of the...

    Wayland infill and developments

If only there was some kind of transit corridor nearby, perhaps as close as across the street, that could be developed to offer a direct route to Cambridge and Boston.

Freight and General New England RR News

My guess is that lawsuit and possibly some incentive from CSX could have pushed things past the tipping point. EDIT: $20+M worth of land might also be an incentive as well.

    Commuter Rail to New Hampshire?

Las Pinatas, a restaurant that preceded Burrito Me in that location was also fabulous and run by a great family. It's nice to see the downtown area coming back to life in a way that I haven't seen since my childhood. Of course, in true NH fashion, the city spending money restoring theater that...

    Commuter Rail to New Hampshire?

I live within 20 minutes of Anderson station on the Lowell Line, and my wife spent today driving our teenage child and two friends to Gunstock in NH, which is about 15 minutes from Laconia, NH (which has a lovely train station with good burrito joint in it). Drive to Anderson to drop the kids...

    Commuter Rail to New Hampshire?

I'm pretty sure Hanlon's Razor applies here. New Hampshire has a very limited tax base and "property taxes" are always a very hot topic. There's also very much an attitude of "why would I pay for something someone else uses?" in many areas. This is slowly changing as the demographics shift...

    Commuter Rail to New Hampshire?

I don't think OP was speaking against the viability or necessity of passenger rail, but demonstrated actions by the State of NH. About $770M on the recent I-93 widening, and a planned $157.8M on the Everett Turnpike. I grew up "north of Concord" in a city that has a beautiful train station on...

    Commuter Rail to New Hampshire?

The bill's sponsor represents Rochester, NH. So I'm sure he'll soon propose a bill to block the state from providing 60% of the funding needed for a new school in that town, since the vast majority of state residents won't be able to benefit from that.

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

While I generally am not a fan of government waste, I only wish we were in a position to have some egg on our faces resulting from a $20B passenger rail investment.

I'm not sure how much I believe this. Looking up the tracks in the direction of Charles/MGH, the southbound trains still crawled the entire way into Park Street during my commute last week. Maybe they removed it after my AM commute.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

My experience on the Esplanade and other places mirrors this WITH the addition of the "I've chosen this mixed-use path to try to quality for the Tour De France" group of bicyclists.

While this is indeed a big screw-up, a more accurate headline for that article was that the DESIGNS are for trains that are too big for the tunnels. There are no trains yet. It's still a costly mistake due to the design rework required, though.

Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

I'm not sure why it's taken so long, but yesterday I discovered the ferry from the Seaport to North Station. Price and time competitive with the subway, and certainly more pleasant in decent weather.

I think it depends where you're coming from. On the Fitchburg Line, I don't think there are really any good options for park and ride inside of Concord. AFAIK, lots are either tiny or private or non-existent. For the Lowell Line, you have Anderson, but that's about it. If you're coming from...

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

I was a Day 1 rider of the Silver Line (or Silverline, depending on what signs the T put up at the time) and it was literally empty outside of peak times, but very few people got off at Courthouse. Years later, I work in the area again and have been riding it and am amazed that 90% of the riders...

As written, the law requires a community to have at least one district that meets the 15/units and 0.5 mi criteria. Boston clearly meets this, as there is at least one district that meets the requirement.
