Take Back The Streets (...and alleys)

Totally agree. What's especially interesting about many areas of Boston such as the North End, Newbury Street, Charles Street, etc. is that the density of humans on the sidewalk is such that adding diners doesn't substantially increase the number or overall density of people on the sidewalk...

    Bowker Overpass replacement?

Even though I'm a frequent Storrow Drive user, both as a resident of the suburbs AND as a resident of three different downtown neighborhoods, I'm all for making it a low speed parkway/surface boulevard. That said, for those exiting the city, one key benefit of Storrow Drive is that it is often...

    Cambridge Crossing (NorthPoint) | East Cambridge/Charlestown | Cambridge/Boston

It doesn't answer your question, but does discuss the topic a little bit: https://www.concreteconstruction.net/how-to/concrete-production-precast/its-about-time_o

    Crazy Transit Pitches

I submit that a shuttle makes so much sense that is, in fact, "crazy". However, I'll amend it to say that it should be a full Trackless BRT solution.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

As a frequent Amtrak rider who's lived north of town and in Back Bay, I've basically found the stations to be roughly interchangeable. When I was convenient to the Red Line, South Station was easier and when I was convenient to the Orange Line, Back Bay was easier. Finally, when I lived in...

The Alcott (née Garden Garage Towers) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End

I'm having trouble picturing this. Are you referring to the path that passed the former tennis courts and garage, or something else?

Biking the Boston 'Burbs (Trails, MDC, & Towns beyond Hubway area)

I have a "hybrid" bike that's basically only good on streets or packed dirt/stone dust and it does ok on that path, though there are stretches with sand and roots that make it a bit more challenging. I used to live in the Longfellow Towers and my occasional "long ride" would be from there to...

Biking the Boston 'Burbs (Trails, MDC, & Towns beyond Hubway area)

While I agree that extending the path is the right thing, the unpaved Reformatory Branch is much more "fun" for me to ride since it's generally much less crowded than the paved portion of the trail.

    Commuter Rail to New Hampshire?

I experienced this directly in high school when a property tax revolt led to a 2 year regime of very limited funding for sports and extracurricular activities. There was no money to travel and private donors and volunteers at least made it possible to to still have some of those things. I do...

Future Plans for Hynes Convention Center | 900 Boylston St | Back Bay

I had a front-row seat to that building going up. The construction elevator was amazingly loud for some reason. I can vividly remember the sound of that thing going up and down.

    Commuter Rail to New Hampshire?

Speaking as someone that grew up in NH, there's always been tension between "common good" and "I don't use it, so why should I pay for it" in the state. Transportation and education seem to really get people riled up.

Future Plans for Hynes Convention Center | 900 Boylston St | Back Bay

I lived for several years on the top floor of a building on the south side of Comm. Ave. between Fairfield and Gloucester, and could't really recall any time where I was shaded by the Pru, Hancock, or other buildings except during early morning hours. IIRC, by the time the sun was high enough...

    Commuter Rail to New Hampshire?

Yes, they have done that in the past. https://www.planetizen.com/node/86010/new-hampshire-house-denies-federal-funding-boston-concord-rail-study With such a restricted tax base, people in NH are very aware of and protective of their property tax rates and amounts. Anything that could lead to...

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

I think our definition of fail strongly differs from the T's definition. The clear intention is to get rid of the wires and the road projects provide such a good opportunity for them to do so, they've got to contort reality to make a case for it. Once the wires are down, it's a success for the...

Cape Cod Rail, Bridges and Highways

I fully support the suggested rotary alternative, but mostly because it continues our tradition of making nonstandard rotaries and roundabouts.

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

You might as well add capacity to that list as well. I was a day 1 rider of the SL from South Station to the WTC stop. This was when the Seaport was still full of parking lots and, had I wanted to, I could park across the street from my office at WTC West for $8/day. My experience was that...

Cape Cod Rail, Bridges and Highways

Average (pre-COVID) daily traffic over the bridges ranges from 80k - 136k per month. In terms of people, that's probably close to the ridership of the entire Commuter Rail system. I'd go so far to say that even with an amazingly robust transportation system, we'd still need the bridges.

    17 Farnsworth | Seaport

I feel like the question of parking for the museums is more around benefit for those coming out of town. Families in the city can simply walk or take transit, though some would still drive if given the option. Regarding strollers and transit, I don't know anyone in the city that ever used an...

The Alcott (née Garden Garage Towers) | 35 Lomasney Way | West End

When I lived in that area, my wife worked in Waltham and none of the shuttles made it possible to get back in time for school pick-up, so a car was the only option. A long time ago when I was young and single, I had no problem going car-free from downtown to a job also in Waltham, but that was...

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

Yeah, this plan makes zero sense. We want to replace TT with Battery for [reasons] but we're not going to wait for Battery to be ready so we're going to use Diesels in the interim (i.e. forever). I agree that this is just a ploy to get rid of the wires. Moving forward BEFORE an alternative...
