Renovations to BPL's Johnson Wing | Back Bay

Re: Menino plans renovations to BPL's Johnson Wing ^ I'm grateful...though let's not forget the slabs were considered necessary at the time...this section of Boylston wasn't what it is now with a lot more dicey blocks, a lack of foot traffic, a wind-swept Pru arcade, and not so much high end...

    Cambridge Infill and Small Developments

Reminds me of the building off the turnpike in Framingham near the headquarters of TJX that's just a big box with funny corner turrets and colorful facade panels...all supposedly post-modernism.... I don't know who's going to benefit from the waterfall effect except the architect.

Public Food Market | 136 Blackstone Street | Haymarket | Downtown

Re: Public Food Market I agree with Tombstoner. The "markets" already in place at Copley Sq. and the former one along Cambridge St. at Govt. center sell wonderful stuff, but sooo over-priced it's ridiculous. Maybe a few bargains can be had, but generally most people can't afford to shop there...

Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

Most of the fountains maintained by the city run dry after a few years due to neglect, such as the great fountain in City Hall Plaza years ago, now a concrete bunker cover. I love fountains but ONLY if they're maintained by private firms, such as PO Sq.. The Brewer is a present-day...

Fenway Center (One Kenmore) | Turnpike Parcel 7, Beacon Street | Fenway

Look what was done in Providence. Don't tell me that was all city money...I agree with the total decking of the Pike wherever feasible and finally putting this pit to rest.

    Boston Common Overhaul

^^Maybe they also need to take care of the historic boundary fence at the other end of the Tremont St. mall which is slowly being destroyed by vandals. Not to mention the entire plaza in front of the visitors' center which has been a disgrace for at least 35 years.

    City Hall Plaza

Don't know where to put this so here goes: The Kennedy Federal Building in Govt. Center....when will they be finished doing whatever they're doing to it and get around to restoring the street level area? It seems I was twenty pounds lighter with a full head of dark hair when they started this...

Dorm Tower @ Berklee College of Music | 168 Mass Ave | Back Bay

Campbell was rather complimentary about this building. I was surprised that up close the sheathing feels, look, and sounds like plastic. Good imitation of concrete from a distance...

Charles River Skatepark | East Cambridge

Re: Charles River Skatepark Does this thing need to be so complex? The paving alone looks like it's going to run into trouble with maintenance and then where will we be? I though skateboarders couldn't care less about fancy detail and only wanted concrete or wooden things to slide up and...

Lovejoy Wharf - Hoffman Building | 160 North Washington Street | West End

Notice how most architectural design over the last 40 years seems to cater to the occupants and their views more than how the building itself relates architecturally to the environment and/or the older surrounding parts? Two very different exceptions: City Hall and Hancock tower. Both were...

101 Seaport Blvd (PwC) | Parcel L1@Seaport Sq. | Seaport

Re: 101 Seaport Blvd (PwC)/parcel L1@Seaport Sq./Seaport Kendall Sq is looking good. Oh....it's the innovation district...

    Revere Beach Developments/infill | Revere

Bring back the Virginia Reel! I too have been waiting 40 years for something good to happen here since they tore down all the interesting attractions that brought crowds to this oldest public beach in the US.

Assembly Square Infill and Small Developments | Somerville

Assembly Sq. is giving a lot of people what they now crave...an opportunity to live in virtual reality. Image, no matter how artificial, has replaced substance in communities like these. After all look where it's located. Aside from the riverfront, it's surrounded by a major highway, shopping...

4-6 Newbury Street | Back Bay

I wouldn't mind more interesting spandrel on 8 Newbury. The brick is kind of boring.

    Millennium Tower (Filene's) | 426 Washington Street | Downtown

I compare these large projects with the John Hancock tower (and totally agree with the above assessment of Exchange Place, a true failure of urban planning at a key corner). The Hancock is a total and utter bore at ground level despite plaza, wider sidewalks and reflective glass (who wants to...

Re: Pier 4 Residential Tower | 136-146 Northern Avenue | Seaport I think it will look great once the glazing goes in.
