Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

MN is making hay with the shutdown on the Waterbury line to get the PTC installed. This week a crew has been working in Naugatuck, installing a bunch of new signal boxes along the line.

Didn't realize it until you posted the picture of 90 Prescott cubalibre, but I briefly worked there a few years back. My roommates ran Neuron Robotics and a makerspace out of there. Since the makerspace was nonprofit, they had a nice deal with the landlord which let them have the space rent...

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

Wow, 30min headways on the WTBY line would be AMAZING indeed. The plans I've seen for the Naugatuck Station upgrades involve moving it south to Maple st, and the massive redevelopment potential of Parcel B. That should allow them to use the existing Maple st underpass for access ti the second...

There's the new Wollaston Station on the Red Line which is being built without provision to double track the Old Colony line in the future.

New Red and Orange Line Cars

Sure, but they couldn't be riding on their own wheels; they'd have to be put on flatbeds, just like when they're trucked in.

    Crazy Highway Pitches

The CAT is such a roller coaster that only subway cars/trolleys could deal with the grades. Wouldn't work for knitting the north/south commuter rail and intercity systems together. https://tunneltalk.com/Boston-rail-link-Sep04-North-South-link-revived.php

    Crazy Transit Pitches

A while back, some of us were trying to figure out how the Old Colony could be double tracked by piggy backing off the HOV lane project on 93. It's a real shame that the new Wollaston Station project doesn't provision for future OC double tracking.

    Reasonable Transit Pitches

A Worcester +1 would probably be done in conjunction with a new expanded layover ala the Fitchberg Wachusett extension. There's a suitable looking parcel for a layover half a mile north of the Auburn Mall site, and there's several areas around the treatment plant and landfill in Millbury that...

    Reasonable Transit Pitches

It's also a bit of a head scratcher figuring out how to connect the mouth of the tunnel to Providence station, what with the station effectively being underground, and a tower having been built right in line with the ROW leading from the mouth of the tunnel.

Truck drivers have to do it on some mountain passes, but that's kind of an extreme case.
