MBTA Red Line / Blue Line Connector

Somehow I don't think that would fly (no pun intended) with the Beacon Hill crowd. Plus given the size of the columns on the GLX, the footprint would be huge. In a perfect world, I would like to see viaduct used like the Marta north line has utilised in Atlanta around Perimeter / Dunwoody.

Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

Just wanted to say that I did fly the 748 from FRA > BOS back in 2019. I was booked direct from MUC but LH rebooked via FRA. Only difference from the 744 for me was that the engine noise was much less noticeable but it was uncomfortable AF in the back. Main gripe was that the seats were too...

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

I know the glass jetbridges are rare here, but I wasn't aware of any laws prohibiting them. I had to actually search for this and was surprised that there was a ban, but it was changed in either 2014 or 2015. I think it's just the airports are going with the cheaper ones because 1) glass is more...

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

So I was bored and checked the Apple Maps app, and they've got a long way to go with regards to the Union Sq extension...

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

I was wondering if anyone went out on the 71 or 73 today? I took my daughter and rode the 71 round trip from Harvard to Watertown Sq. It was insane the number of people on the sidewalks taking photos and video of the trolleybus. I did see the 73 in front of us have an issue with the overheads...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

I guess that would be a good way to see if the third rail is hot. Lights out = no traction power. I've actually seen traction crews throw a chain with wooden handles to short out the power in Chicago. That was some fireworks that goddamn almost blinded me when I was standing watching. I've also...

General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Looking at the photos brings up a question that I have long wanted to have answered but wasn't important enough until now. The lighting in the stations has the label that it is 600VDC. Meaning are they actually using traction power for lighting? I also noticed on the older rolling stock the...

MBTA Fare System (Charlie, AFC 2.0, Zone, Discounts)

When I was in London the Oyster card wouldn't read if there was anything else in proximity and the same goes for the old Charlie Cards. I tried keeping it in the other half of my HID work cardholder and it would never read, but once I put in another card case and kept it on the lanyard it would...

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

The recline is the same on the ICE3 and ICE4. It's like why even bother trying, and that is including First class on the trains.

Malden + Melrose Infill and Small Developments

I know he did that for a while, but when I talked to him earlier this year he was doing something else out in western Mass where he moved a few years ago.

Malden + Melrose Infill and Small Developments

It's a bank or some salon I think. I walked by with my daughters for the trick-or-treat thing they had in Malden. Many good times at the Fitz, plus the owner was my old landlord in Medford back in the day, and we still keep in touch.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

I was with my wife heading to CambrideSide the other day and saw this. Don't worry, she was driving. Not going to lie, that Type 8 looks small, but the photo above that shows what appears to be four cars on the platform so that would make sense.

MBTA may go All-electric With Commuter Rail.

I think these are two different scenarios. One, which Jahvon mentioned is what we use at Park or wherever there is a "Spanish Solution." I've done that many times, waiting for a train to come in so I can get to the other platform. I did that all the time in Munich because the elevator was in the...

New Red and Orange Line Cars

What can I say, I'm just trying to emulate the new CRRC cars.

New Red and Orange Line Cars

You know, I'd like to think the new LED lighting will put a stop to such shenanigans. And if you want a blowie, go to the Papa Genos in Brockton. I think they hand them out behind the pinball machine.

    General Infrastructure

So they did something like this in Aschaffenburg, Germany, where they covered the A3 Autobahn with solar panels when they put up sound barriers. Based on what I looked up it generated 2600 kWH a few years ago. Either way, it's pretty cool, and maybe MassDOT can look into that as well.

New Red and Orange Line Cars

The best way I've used to describe the Orange line to friends in Germany was to show them the photo of the dude getting a blowie at State St. And I'm not going to lie, I missed riding it. Yeah, the Munich U-Bahn is so clean and sterile that it's just there. At least with the T, there is stuff...

New Red and Orange Line Cars

Took the T today for the first time in what I think is 5 or so years. Lucky me, I got the new train at Malden. My thoughts on it... The seats aren't that bad, and I didn't slide around on it. The chimes are annoying at first, and the number of announcements seemed to be every 15 seconds, but by...

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

I usually have no issues with the Customs area, other than it's quite a long walk from E10, especially if one has a disability as I do, but the biggest issue that I have is that the luggage carts used to be free. Now it's 6 USD for them, and half the time the card reader isn't working with my...
