    Tobin Bridge Relocation/Replacement

    HC has not been allowed to use the Tobin since the construction of the City Square approach tunnels. It is part of the Boston core tunnels HC prohibited zone.

    Tobin Bridge Relocation/Replacement

    What about a high bridge for vehicle traffic and a low lift bridge for train traffic on the same alignment. Is the ship traffic so heavy there that would be a huge transit disruption?

    General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

    So basically MBTA saying they are too incompetent to engineer ceilings correctly, and too lazy to maintain them? So stations need to look like crap. Got it.

    Brookline Infill and Small Developments

    I honestly believe that there is intentional design sabotage with affordable housing in the US. There is a strong thread of "poor people don't deserve better" that runs through large segments of our society. "Good design" is reserved for those who can pay for it. Poor people get the remnants.

    Assembly Sq <-> Casino Footbridge

    This is something of a yes, but. 1) The bridge is clearly needed now, even if the stadium never materializes. 2) But if the stadium does materialize it is then REALLY needed. That is why it is pitched as part of the people surge mitigation for game days at the stadium.

    MBTA Fare System (Charlie, AFC 2.0, Zone, Discounts)

    My experience with the uptime and availability of the outdoor fare machines is not great. MBTA does not report reliability or uptime information, but they seem to fail often.

    Assembly Sq <-> Casino Footbridge

    Depends on whether the economic development is asking for a tax break. If they are paying full freight in taxes, sure use the taxes for the infrastructure. If they are getting a long-term tax break for the development, then contribute to the mitigation. Also MLS stadiums are not know as...

    MBTA Fare System (Charlie, AFC 2.0, Zone, Discounts)

    Notice that all your pictures are indoor locations. Pure touchscreen interaction with fare machines are problematic and prone to breakdown in New England conditions outdoors. There are the ultra-resistive touch screens that can work outdoors in almost all weather, but they are pricey. I...

    Assembly Sq <-> Casino Footbridge

    Isn't this where rational politics says that the Kraft Group's stadium becomes contingent on them funding a big chunk of the new bridge to accelerate it's availability?

    Better MBTA Station Names

    If you want to see how it is done around the globe, here is a good review article. The process is pretty much "it depends" -- and largely is based on how the street and area geography of the city plays out and is best understood. I will also say that in more transit centric cities, the station...

    South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

    That full-on side view from across Fort Point Channel is really not very attractive. The varied window effects in the several sections of the tower seem quite jarring.

    Lyra (née The Huntington) | 252/258/264 Huntington Avenue | Fenway

    You actually cannot build like this up much of the Blue Line corridor -- Logan airspace restrictions are really tight there. That is why the Suffolk Downs proposals are so modest in height.

    Transit Data & Analyses (Service, Ridership, Speed, Demographics, and more)

    Longwood is also an unusual location in terms of transit goals. You are not really trying to get everyone out of their cars, but rather you are trying to reserve car access for the people who really need it (many patients). So the goal is to get employees and visitors using transit, while...

    Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

    I would assume it is mostly a connection feed for destinations only available from Logan (versus Green). Ground travel time from South Coast MA to Logan is pretty unreliable.

    Transit Data & Analyses (Service, Ridership, Speed, Demographics, and more)

    Raises the question for a location like Longwood -- to encourage T use, should there be a concerted public effort to extend the habitrails to closer to the T stops.

    Sure, let's revert back to BU Normal Architecture, masterpieces like the Warren Towers! :rolleyes:

    Transit Data & Analyses (Service, Ridership, Speed, Demographics, and more)

    So measuring distance from the various T stops to somewhat arbitrary points within the Longwood area is interesting and normalizing, but I wonder if the real figure of merit from each T stop is how far you are from the nearest entrance to one of the hospital complex habitrails. Each of the...

    New Red and Orange Line Cars

    There is a lot of concern trolling in that article. The contract has mechanisms for tariff adjustments, and those have been made multiple times in the past. That will cost the MBTA money, for sure, but not much you can do about that this late in the delivery cycle.
