Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

That misalignment is the immediate tell that we are not serious about high-speed rail. Aerodynamics are critical in real high-speed rail. https://by.genie.uottawa.ca/~mcg3341/AerodynamicsOfHighSpeedTrains.pdf

Copley Square Revamp | Back Bay

The hardscape areas have been shifted over more toward Dartmouth Street (to connect better with temporary closures of Dartmouth and the Public Library plaza area). Lawn area is now in front of Trinity Church. The basic design concept is very similar to before.

    MBTA Buses & Infrastructure

I cannot tell you where it comes from, but it is a long standing tradition that the Boston Police do not do traffic enforcement. It dates back at least to the era of Mayor Kevin White who basically told them not to enforce traffic laws. He felt Boston Drivers had a healthy disrespect for...

New Red and Orange Line Cars

Just a note that usually most of the USA content on those types of Buy America complaint assemblies is assembly labor, not components.

Old trains not worth upgrading since we are months away from Acela II?

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

I certainly think the approach should be used where it makes sense. In some cases, though, it really slows down the upgrade process -- as in the T tying station upgrades to development over the station (Hynes, Back Bay).

Other People's Rail: Amtrak, commuter rail, rapid transit news & views outside New England

It is an interesting approach to funding where there is land available for development. But not every corridor in need of transportation funding is a developers' dream.

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

I think they are just being realistic. Most on-airport construction projects end up severely behind schedule due to overly optimistic expectation that it is just like other commercial construction (it just is not -- every step is much slower).

Lyra (née The Huntington) | 252/258/264 Huntington Avenue | Fenway

The design aesthetic of Symphony Towers is dictated by the Christian Science Center Master Plan. They are part of all the brutalist and brutalist-light elements of that plan (Church Park, Greenhouse Apartments, Colonnade Hotel; Tower, Sunday School Building and Publishing Building on the...

American Repertory Theater | 175 North Harvard Street | Allston

Transit access to the new location sucks. 25 minute walk from Harvard. Or a bus  . No thanks -- ART lost me on this one.

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

Close the airport, and you can have it in 6 months.

    Green Line Reconfiguration

There is a pretty big question raised by those designs. If you are width constrained, why incorporate the vertical access into the width dimension. Why not place vertical access at the ends of platforms, so the access does not add to the overall width? Or were there elevators at the ends so...

    Fantasy T maps

Even back then the T was laser focused on the job at hand -- rapid transit -- or maybe not.

    Fantasy T maps

What about looping your Silver Line Light Rail back to West Broadway via Broadway? Broadway really serves the core of Southie. Also there is an abandoned trolley station level in the Broadway Station that could potentially be reopened.

Pier 5 Redevelopment | Navy Yard | Charlestown

    1) I am certain Bearskin Neck includes made land, so some of the buildings are on pilings. 2) There are waterfront residential buildings all around Boston harbor that are definitely built on pilings, and multiple more have been proposed for former wharf locations.

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

See message above -- not quite yet -- this is operational prep-work only, but seems real for late this Spring.

Pier 5 Redevelopment | Navy Yard | Charlestown

Even a place like Rockport has a ton of housing right on the water. You may think of Bearskin Neck as commercial, but the upper floors above almost every business is housing. And Middle and N Streets on the Neck are totally residential.

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

I am travelling on Acela from NYP to BOS on March 31. I just got a "change of seat configuration" notice from Amtrak -- on airlines this means change of equipment! I believe that means Acela II is moving into service by then!

Natural Gas (LNG, Pipelines, & Distribution)

    1) Offshore underwater, like Nord Stream (NJ to South Coast). $$$ but less resistance. 2) via Canada (not likely right now).
