It's a good trade off functionally. And Mt Carmel itself might have been a nice structure from the outside but the rest of the lot was cracked up pavement and shoddy support buildings. We don't need poorly attended churches. We need renewal and housing and vibrancy
Yes, the church abandoned it and would not pay to keep it for historic preservation. A development is planned for it and was recently approved and is posted here.

All units have been rented except that one, so.as crazy as the location and price seems, it is working. If they drop the price a few hundred and target some single lawyer or something they might get what they want
Who knows, probably just another old guy with too much money. Also they have no choice, they will either honor the lease or pay for the duration of the lease anyways, or try and go to court. the team signed like a 30 year lease
In their preliminary site plans there is a smaller 1 to 2 story lab building in that spot to the south as well, I dunno if it's still in their plans but it was there at some point. Hopefully still

There is supposed to be another smaller 7 story building there for the next phase and a 2 story life science building eventually. Hopefully it starts soon
