50 Post Office Sq (Fomer Verizon Building Tower)

Re: Verizon Building Tower That shot is a sad reminder that the erosion of Boston's urban fabric in favor of the car didn't begin with the Central Artery or the West End.

It's Texas. Austin gets too much credit for what it is because of its context alone.

The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

The Victor | 110 Beverly Street | West End

Re: The Victor I don't think anyone on this forum disputes the fact that background buildings are good. No one wants a Googie Boston or a starchitecture theme park. What people wish was that the construction quality and basic urbanism of the background buildings was a little higher. Stone vs...

Radian (Dainty Dot) | 120 Kingston Street | Chinatown

Re: 120 Kingston, 29 Story Tower in Chinatown I think it'd be great if we designed our streets for Sundays and our mass transit systems for the rest of the week, rather than the other way around (ahem, 12:30am last train).

You mostly walk around, then probably sit for a bit. There's not much more to it really.

Re: 120 Kingston, 29 Story Tower in Chinatown Any reason why that street shouldn't be narrowed by at least one lane?

    Day Trip to Brattleboro, VT

This seems to be happening in a lot of towns and small cities. Large corporations killing off suburban-style big box branches because they're not the most profitable or going belly-up thanks to internet competition; small bookstores and cinemas revitalizing in the town center. Call it organic...

Seaport Neighborhood - Infill and Discussion

Re: Innovation Dist. / South Boston Seaport Here's the site plan for what's replacing the 2010 Shanghai Expo site: Look familiar? Superblocks, stumps, excessive greenspace, massive streets. It's almost like they brought in the BRA to plan it. I guess outside a few prestige projects in...

^ This is what Paris does, and what many suburbs of Boston used to do until recently. I wonder if some regulation was adopted to force overhead arms.

Photo of the Day, Boston Style: Part VI (2013)

No way. You see this in poor Upstate New York cities and it looks cheap and hideous. I think it's a practice that's being discontinued due to wind issues making it unsafe, too. If we're going to choose a less safe type of traffic light, I'd rather go back to the poles at the side of the road...

    Day Trip to Brattleboro, VT

A lot of them are offices, I think, just like a big city downtown. The most surreal thing about these pics are the dense streets where you can look up and see equally dense stands of trees on the hills/mountains ascending into fog.
