    Boston 2024

Where has the US hosted an Olympics other than Atlanta or LA? St. Louis? Come on. Bidding culture is a little different now in 1904 - and back then, St. Louis was Dubai, the next great world city. The IOC are a pretentious bunch of royal twats. They love cosmopolitan metropoles or scenic...

    Boston 2024

Dallas would be Atlanta II: Return of the Boring, Middle of Nowhere Provincial US Olympic Candidate Cities. The IOC wouldn't even go with Chicago when it had sexier choices abroad. Dallas is a guaranteed dud and the USOC wouldn't go near it if it were smart.

    Boston 2024

LOL @Tulsa and Dallas. And I'm amazed joint, two-country bids keep getting proposed when the IOC slaps them down every year (it'd be especially unworkable at the fortified US-Mex. border). San Francisco, LA, and *maybe* Philly would be the only real competition.

The Victor | 110 Beverly Street | West End

Re: The Victor Better parts than the whole. In truth, everyone probably would've been evicted to make way for yuppies by now. But at least the city would have more of this tremendous architectural legacy. I bet it'd still have more housing units, too.

Committee to discuss forming a commission to assess whether Boston can host games...this is going to be a long slog to probably "no". http://www.bostonmagazine.com/news/blog/2013/04/29/boston-olympics-2024-study/

The Victor | 110 Beverly Street | West End

Re: The Victor I don't even mind those as much as the artery ramp parcels, which look set to stay that way for at least as long as we've had Gov't Center around. Nothing's more suburban than an onramp surrounded by useless landscaping. Not City Hall Plaza, not Charles River Park; the ramp...

    Boston Marathon Bombings Thread

Control access at traditional gathering points. Guarantee crowds don't form elsewhere by stating that the police can't guarantee safety as effectively there. Something like that.

Millennium (Hayward) Place | 580 Washington Street | Downtown

Re: Millennium Place III | Hayward Place Something is missing on the Hayward Place side of the street...it's nice to see the neon lights reflected and all...but some neon on the new building itself would be the perfect complement.

    Boston Marathon Bombings Thread

I would imagine they could impose controlled access to the thick crowds along the Boylston finish. Everyone talks about how it's impossible to secure a marathon, but no one is going to be bombing the sporadic people sitting out on lawn chairs in Wellesley or Newton. They're going to find the...

Re: 121 Brookline Ave (ACE Tickets) Can you imagine if someone in the late 19th/early 20th century had said "ugh, bayfront apartment buildings and brownstones clad in red brick with light stone bases are getting so tired". Central Boston wouldn't have any of the architectural personality it has...
