Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

I've been to several of these places and I just don't hold them in the same esteem as you do, but there's nothing wrong with that. I will say the walk from the T station to the Tipsy Toboggan is a bit of a haul and not very scenic, while hoofing it to Columbia Rd really seems like a long...

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

Agree about Fall River. With New Bedford, the station fits with what's already there. Like 40 years ago NB worked on the historic downtown district, even moving some buildings around. There's the Whaling Museum, ferry to the islands, and several restaurants and hotels all relatively close...

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

Some thoughts: 1) I would love a seasonal train to Newport, a place I spend a lot of time in so I may be a little biased. However I don't blame the MBTA for moving forward without extensive talks with RIDOT. Rhode island politicians can't find their asses with both hands. They can't even...

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

No problem. Try doing that commute yourself and let me know if you actually get to Boston from Fall River in the morning in a hour and 5 minutes. Oh, and the car you're driving can't be using lights and sirens as you travel up the highway.

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

On what planet does driving between Boston and the South Coast during rush hour take less time than the train, because it isn't this one. I had the pleasure of driving down there yesterday. It took two and a half freaking hours and I left at 7:30 in the morning. In fantasyland, where everyone...

Boston University - Pardee School of Global studies | 250 Bay State Road | Fenway

They're waiting for Howard Stern to write a check! I do agree though that the COM building has to go. Not sure where they would have room to build it in West Campus but they could put it closer to BU Central where Comm ave goes over the Pike.

Stadium & Riverwalk | Tidewater Landing | Pawtucket

I think they should get Enron to sponsor the stadium, as this will end up about as well as that did. 140M for a 11k minor league soccer stadium that will draw about 3k a game. Yikes.

Revs moving to Everett is probably 10 years away at best. Tough to complete with a MLS team backed by Kraft's $$$ in the meantime and all the while the state has to pay off 45M in bonds.

Hope Point Tower (Fane) | 250 Dyer Street | Providence

Is this a good time to point out that property tax revenue is what makes cities grow, and that tall buildings generate more taxes than microbreweries, pedestrian bridges and vacant lots?

Hope Point Tower (Fane) | 250 Dyer Street | Providence

I'm not sure a new pedestrian bridge is a sign of winning, but otherwise this bodes poorly for the city and state. If this isn't going to get built, why would anyone pony up to save the superman building or that absurd soccer stadium boondoggle in Pawtucket? Much like losing the Pawsox because...

Wikipedia as a source, Demographics as a subject

A few thoughts: 1) okay, boomer is pretty funny 2) I don't think the census is doing an actual count every year, it's just an estimate based on....? FWIW their estimate leading up to the actual count in 2020 way underestimated Massachusetts population growth. 3) This building will be a welcome...

State to take closer look at tolls on I-93

I haven't seen a study but aren't tolls considered to be really regressive? I suppose people could wave their tax return when going under the gantry but that's tough to do while driving.

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

I believe the tower is built on a slope, and having walked through the neighboring building many times to cut through I can easily picture it being 691 from the ground on one side and 700 on the other. Regardless of all that, the way the developers handled this was brilliant. They never...

Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

You can't ask a developer to pony up 150m for linkage payments and then also add all kinds of bells and whistles to the design. So pick your poison. If every building comes along with a requirement to fund every non profit in the city, you're going to get blander designs.
