But it's not the developer's job to build a bridge. It's the city's. This is why we get boring architecture. By the time everybody gets paid off the offsetting savings come out of the building design.

I'm still not sure why building desperately needed housing near transit is generating so much angst. Cambridge unlike almost every other municipality is really stepping up and constructing new apartments quickly. Regarding traffic, it was a problem before and will remain one until flying cars...

It serves as a big reminder of the futility of NIMBYism. The fantasyland effort to get the building torn down went on for far too long, and now it's payback time! The uglier this building becomes during it's rehab, the more I like it! Turn it into Cambridge's version of the Hurley building! ;)

I don't remember the "old" Kendall square of....what 20? 30? years ago but it is pretty generic. However if it replaced a bunch of old warehouses and axle repair shops then I suppose it's better than before.

I agree up to a point. I'm not lamenting the loss of The Rat or Captain Nemo's. However that building did start the trend of destroying the architectural fit of the neighborhood. That's not the end of the world as often one different looking building can work. But that hotel has no relation...

I agree and blame my alma mater to some extent. BU pivoted away from Kenmore to develop west campus and became indifferent to what got built and how it meshed with everything else. The result is a disjointed look and feel. Is it corporate? Is it academic? Is it bohemian? Is it residential...

I'll second the notion that isn't it the job of the developers to gauge the market for office space and not random people on an internet message board? If they're wrong that's their problem, right? We had people posting out here 6 months ago who were sure Winthrop Square and South Station...
