At the very beginning, they were just smoothies. I think it was Jera's Juice, which then became Jera's Juice and Wraps, then The Wrap, etc. The smoothies were good, I never much cared for the wraps, and the items they pretend are Mexican food in the BoLoCo formulation are an abomination. I'm...

Roads and Highways General Development Thread

Although it is often quite frustrating, the slow, deliberative disbursement process is by design. We are talking about massive amounts of money that belongs to the general public. Our representative government is designed to protect the public from giving away the treasury on a whim.

It's interesting that they are now saying this, because a rotary was one of the three initial design alternatives back in 2020:

Exactly. I don't at all mind a green courtyard within the site footprint, so long as the buildings form a street wall. Really, that's probably something that should be more common. The problem with the proto-typical and much derided towers in the park model is that the green space is in this no...

    Crazy Transit Pitches

I guess it depends on how many people are needing to specifically select a branch vs simply needing to move through the downtown section served by the trunk. I would assume at least half of riders on the Orange Line between Back Bay and North Station are branch agnostic.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Wouldn't 3 minute headways somewhat ease the dwell time issue? In theory it might mean half as many people waiting on the platform when a train arrives, for example.

It's one of the many things about Polar Park that favorably reminds me of Dodger Stadium, which is also built in to the side of a hill, and can be entered from the top level. The blue surround is the other reason it makes me think of Chavez Ravine.

He has always favored slower streets, but did sort of tone that down when he was mulling a run for mayor. I think some of the anti-bike lane rhetoric was also an effort to curry favor among a certain subset of voters he saw as a potential foundation for the run. We'll see, but he is now saying...

    Logan Airport Capital Projects

Adding the cost for necessary roadway upgrades, etc., the project will end up costing $800 million. What would it cost to build an APM? I get that the parking garage generates a revenue stream which will pay for it and then some, but should MassPort really be chasing profit or should they...

Franklin Park - White Stadium Renovation

Regarding football, I loved playing it in high school. I was nevertheless quite glad that none of my kids had any interest in doing it when they were the right age. And if we had known back in my day what we know today, I doubt very much that I would have played (father was a pediatrician)...

    DCR Parkways Study

I mostly agree with this -- whimsical bike lanes often mean longer distances to travel, usually at lower speeds. But you and I may come at this from the perspective of power riders. We've both biked all over Boston for decades and see it as transportation more than recreation. I bet a lot of...

My sister lived behind a fire station for several years (literally, her backyard shared a wall with the back of the station. She said that you just get used to it and don't even notice the alarms after a bit.

    Roslindale Infill and Small Developments

It is kind of permanently a low rise in an era when developers, the city, and many in the neighborhood are looking for more mid-rise construction. If it is ever replaced in a manner similar to the West End branch concept, there will be a fight from the usual NIMBY suspects, and frankly, there...

    Roslindale Infill and Small Developments

From the West End Library discussion: I can't find anything on-line to confirm this, but my recollection is that there were structural issues that didn't allow for additional floors without a full tear-down.

West Roxbury Infill and Small Developments

And really, if the Walk Score is strong, the Transit Score can be quite a bit lower. Taking my own example, my Walk Score is 94, whereas both transit and bike score are about 60. This works just fine for me, because I can do most things by walking. And really, I think the transit and bike scores...

West Roxbury Infill and Small Developments

It should definitely be a high priority extension, but it unfortunately wouldn't help people in this particular part of West Roxbury, which is pretty far from the Needham Line ROW. Even without an OLX, the sections of Roslindale and West Roxbury along the ROW are fairly feasible for car free or...

Yes, I like it a lot. And by everyone, I think at least one is a negative reaction troll, who has never offered anything of value in their comments.
