Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

A coffee shop is perfect here. Why? Look at the PDF. The entrance is in the back, away from the main flow of activity/traffic on Dalton St. For retail to thrive here, it has to be focused towards the clientele coming/going in this building. I don't see a Dunkin's going here. The clientele is...

What would you do to get the T out of its financial mess?

The T's financial mess is a self induced mess, and the commuter rail is probably a big part of it. Duplication (or unnecessary service) has to be examined, and eliminated. For example, look at the Fitchburg line. The first inbound train leaves at 05:15am, with 12 more running inbound, with the...

    Redesigning Prudential Tower

Just saw the post about it being "International" style. Guess I was wrong.

    Redesigning Prudential Tower

^Without pretending to be an expert on this issue, I do believe that the Prudential building would not be classified as Brutalist architecture. I think the more accurate term would be Modernism, wouldn't it? I thought Brutalism derived from the term Beton Brut, which is French for "raw...

The St Regis Residences (former Whiskey Priest site) | 150 Seaport Blvd | Seaport

Re: Whiskey Priest/Atlantic Beer Garden Redevelopment | 150 Seaport Blvd | Seaport ^I suppose you're right. I guess I assume that developers would actually want buildings that look great, but the bottom line is maximization of profits over how it looks. I guess I should just shut up and be...

The St Regis Residences (former Whiskey Priest site) | 150 Seaport Blvd | Seaport

Re: Whiskey Priest/Atlantic Beer Garden Redevelopment | 150 Seaport Blvd | Seaport Like a lot of other commenters on here, I love the design of this building. With that said, why did Maahty Walsh have to ask developers for "more architecturally significant buildings" during a speech he gave in...

Quincy Market Update/Renovation | Faneuil Hall Marketplace | Downtown

People like the quirkiness of the place. I feel for the mom and pop eateries, because it looks like they are going to get the boot, or find it hard to stay. (did I hear someone say: rent increa$e?) "Ashkenazy intends to replace the Food Court with a more MODERN assortment of restaurants, bars...

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Re: South Station Tower ^^It was Jeopardy that said I M Pei designed JHT, not me. They presented the photo of JHT and asked what the name of the I M Pei designed tower was. Contestant answered "Hancock", and they said "correct". Henry cobb was not even part of it. the category was: I M Pei...

    Redesigning Prudential Tower

^^^While I think this building design proposal was rather hideous, I think that Boston Properties could tastefully re-skin the tower, and add a cool looking taller and illuminated crown on top, and the PRU could perhaps displace the JHT/200 Clarendon tower as the crown jewel of the Boston...

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Re: South Station Tower Question (If anyone knows): Is constructing a large development/tower like this over existing "infrastructure" a lot more complicated/expensive than with a traditional building situation? If so, how could the economics of a much more expensive project even make it...

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Re: South Station Tower ^off thread but tonight's Jeopardy had an I M Pei category. On one of the questions a pic of "Boston's iconic blue glass Back Bay tower" was shown, question was: Which famous Boston area resident was this I M Pei designed landmark originally named for? Answer: Hancock...

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Re: South Station Tower ^I have to admit Beton's right. While I don't detest the overall look of the tower/spire, the modern look of the tower really does look out of place mated to the historic and majestic looking base. The tower pays no homage to the elegant structure below at all.

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Re: South Station Tower ^^Too bad, that's a cool spire....Boston Properties could add something like to the top of the Prudential building, and we'd have a whole new Back Bay icon. (sorry to derail a bit)

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Re: South Station Tower Isn't this something? ....South Station is finally a GO, I think they should put a large stylized illuminated eagle of some sort at the top of the crown, to match the one at the main entrance...all three of our major transportation hubs in the midst of transformative...

Re: 111 Federal St. | Formerly Trans National Place (Winthrop Square) Part 2 The way the city is fast-tracking this project could possibly allude to a change in the way the city deals with development? Maahty and the Governor seem very pro-business/development, so maybe this portends more...
