Re: Atlantic Wharf (formerly Russia Wharf) Here are a couple pics taken on 10.14.09 from the 35th floor of One Federal.

Re: Russia Wharf You can find statistics that support anything... 93% of all people know that.

    Downtown Crossing/Financial District | Discussion

I've been in 3 times. Twice to get new phones (I'm too impatient to wait for it to be sent in the mail) and once to get a phone repaired. I suppose everything could have been done via that internet thingy that's all the rage with the kids these days.

    Grit vs.Gentrification

Maybe it's just Hollywood... but both "The Departed" and "Gone Baby Gone" made Boston look very gritty. Barely a stylized view of the city to be found in either movie, other than the shots of the State House. I remember watching and thinking "Damn...Boston's a tough town"

Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

Re: Congress St Garage is being sold. From reading all the posts, it sounds like people are wondering why they are only tearing down part of the garage, and why they are only focusing on the plans for the front parcel. Maybe I'm stating the obvious...my apologies if thats the case. But I...

That's a pretty believable explanation actually! With that rationale, they seem a little better.

    IlluminaleBoston08

Ron - on your comment - Why not both? The temporary lighting should be the full-blown, spectacular, extravagant lighting. The long-term/permanent lighting should be more like what Pelham was talking about - the the way the ESB used to be lit before it went Vegas on us... subtle yet effective...

    IlluminaleBoston08

All great points. When I was watching the NBA finals this year they had tons of shots of Boston from the blimp. It was awsome at sunset, but once darkness descended upon the city, you couldn't tell which building was which...not to mention what was land, where the Charles River was located...

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Re: South Station Tower - Full Steam Ahead! I'd say it's good news - especially considering the types of quotes coming out of the Hynes camp. He seems steadfast and confident. While I suppose he could be posturing, I think it sounds promising, even if a little later than expected. Edit: I...

    Crane Pix Past and Present

I have a question about one of the pics... First batch, pic 13. What is the building on that billboard in the foreground...and is there a thread for it? That isn't the China Town development that turned into the Cities largest sandbox, is it?

Bulfinch Crossing | Congress Street Garage | West End

Re: Congress St Garage is being sold. While I'm disappointed that there probably won't be a high-rise on this site, I think the developers were smart. Suggesting an urban neighborhood fee should help with the approval process and public perception. A lot of potential to get some well-crafted...

Copley Place Expansion and Tower | Back Bay

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower The winter Garden should more than make up for any shadows cast on nearby plazas, parks, or courtyards...which by the way don't receive the same pedestrian traffic as they do in the summer months anyway! It would probably get more traffic in the...

Copley Place Expansion and Tower | Back Bay

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower 111 Huntington, like this proposal, is not terribly tall, but still turned out to be a beautiful building and seems to be universally applauded. If that got built to spec, in relatively the same vicinity (and not that long ago)...then maybe there's...

The not City Hall Plaza spook thread.

Re: Menino Proposes Selling City Hall Sounds like something out of a cold-war movie. Laser-sighted listening devices and such. Is espionage even a serious threat like it was in the 80's? And Drug dealers? Does that mean low-level pushers or members of Columbian cartels? They probably have...

City Hall Discussion - Redevelopment - Preservation - Relocation

West End Mobil Closure & Redevelopment | West End

I first saw the photo DownTown Dave posted a while back and thought "man, I wish that gas-station would go and they could build something nice there." But that video was a bit of a tear-jerker. It's a crummy looking place, but you say "Meet me at that mobile." and people knew where to meet...

City Hall Discussion - Redevelopment - Preservation - Relocation

Re: Menino Proposes Selling City Hall That wasteland of a plaza is the real problem. Even if Menino gets his wish and moves city hall to the waterfront, it would be great if they could just re-purpose the existing city-hall. Raze the plaza and redevelop it.

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

Mike - I guess that's kind of my point.^^ Given the fact that the space isn't much wider than the glorified median strip, the N-End parks and this fountain do a nice job of drawing people. The Greenway as a whole certainly has it's shortcomings.
