General MBTA Topics (Multi Modal, Budget, MassDOT)

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos Very exciting, thanks for the news Matthew. I noticed this bit in those slides: I'm puzzled by this point. Even with TSP, the T may maintain the same frequency of service but with less bunching right? In which case it doesn't make sense for...

    Brookline Infill and Small Developments

Yes, there is. Plus a Starbucks and Paris Creperie. Would be much happier with an independent coffee shop here, a specialty food shop, or really anything other than a bank. Then again, there's still a vacancy a few storefronts down from here where Naked Pizza used to be, so there's still room...

    Brookline Infill and Small Developments

Why there has to be a "discussion" about building density at a transit hub neighborhood where three Green Line branches converge will always be a mystery to me. Having lived in the area, traffic never seemed all that high either. Then again, I don't drive so I may not have noticed.

    Biking in Boston

I take the lane every time I commute, but I've found that drivers will just drive on the lane divider and squeeze by me anyway. I still think it's safer than hugging the side (and drivers can't complain about me not following traffic rules) but it's not great either.

    Abandoned T tunnels

I wanted to compare these photos to current conditions, so I've put some Streetview links below. (not totally sure I got the right locations though) http://goo.gl/maps/kcbFJ http://goo.gl/maps/2sjQH

GrandMarc Residence Hall (YMCA) @ Northeastern U | 291 St. Botolph Street | Fenway

I thought you might've been joking for a second, but I notice that this page lists it under that name: http://www.dimellashaffer.com/portfolio/on_the_boards/grandmarc_at_northeastern_university/ How can one building be a village?

    Bridj

That video on their front page rubs me the wrong way with the comparison to the T. They say it's "Better transit for everyone" and then show a nearly empty bus with two people.

Lansdowne Station (née Yawkey Station) | Kenmore Square

I don't have any pictures, but when I walked by here today I saw that they'd put up large illuminated number sculptures that correspond to the Red Sox retired numbers. On the side, they had descriptions of the players. That's probably what they were ripping up the sidewalk for.

    Fenway HoJo's Redevelopment | 1271 Boylston Street | Fenway

In case anyone missed them (I think they were added to the article later), here are some more pictures of the new hotel design from the article.

That's really cool, the interactivity is nice. I'm also looking forward to the cycle tracks down Boylston, buffered bike lane on Louis Pasteur, and others. It's sad though that some corridors like Huntington are "shared lane marking" only in the 30+ year plan.

    Fenway Infill and Small Developments

In case anyone else didn't remember what's planned to be built here, here's the BRA page for it: http://www.bostonredevelopmentauthority.org/projects/development-projects/25-miner-street Here's another relevant thread: http://www.archboston.org/community/showthread.php?t=1347 (I pass by this...

    Brookline Infill and Small Developments

That would be great. I've always thought Coolidge Corner has a surprising number of one to two story buildings, despite how active and transit-friendly the area is. The area really ought to have more residential units. Also, I do hope they improve the Durgin garage. The last thing they did was...

Great! I do bike to work during the winter, but on days when it's below freezing like today I walk instead.

    Crazy Transit Pitches

Also Seattle may be a bad example too, considering that they're having a lot of difficulty with their tunnel-boring machine for the new underground waterfront highway getting stuck: http://seattletimes.com/html/localnews/2022626441_berthashaftsxml.html

Bixi has filed for bankruptcy. Anyone have any idea how this will affect Hubway? IIRC, the bikes and docking stations are manufactured by Bixi. http://www.montrealgazette.com/business/Bixi+files+bankruptcy+protection/9408589/story.html

    The New Retail Thread

That would be great. I try to mainly shop there on weekdays because the line stretches halfway across the store on weekends even with their recent payment queue optimizations.

    Fairmount Line Upgrade

Re: Fairmont Line Upgrade Yeah seriously. No Red-Blue connector, Blue line extension, Green line to Porter, etc? Also, all these 2024 plans except SL are predicated on DMU rollouts going well right? Isn't it a better idea to expand known, working urban rail systems than trying something new...

The Apartments at 525 Huntington Ave @ Wentworth | 525 Huntington Ave | Fenway

It's also terrible for cyclists (as is apparent from the ghost bike in front of the Qdoba). There are several poor intersecitons for pedestrians too, such as at Parker/Forsythe and Huntington. Food options are pretty bad in the area too, though it's gotten better in the last few years (there're...

    Trackless Trolleys

Vancouver, BC also has quite a few trackless trolley routes all around the city.
