    Boston's Best Modern Urbanism

Christian Science Center Rowe's Warf Mandarin While the Hancock is elegant, its impact is purely on the skyline. Although I didn't vote for it, as an office building, 75 State isn't bad.

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

I have nothing against museums, but aren't the two already planned enough ? (Or has that changed ?)

45 Province St | Downtown Crossing

Re: 45 Province St Well, along with 33 Arch Street, 1 Lincoln and 111 Huntington are really the only completed buildings of any height built since 2000.

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

Re: Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail The people who advocate buses don't ride buses. The people who advocate trains DO ride trains.

    Millennium Tower (Filene's) | 426 Washington Street | Downtown

Re: Filene's There is something fundamentally screwy when a 50 to 100 year (or more) real estate design is determined by short term credit considerations or predicted one to two year market conditions.

Silver Line - Phase III / BRT in Boston

Re: Silver Line Phase III Good. Kill that project. Build the Medford Green Line extension, and make long term plans for more useful route improvements.

    W Hotel | 100 Stuart St | Theater District

Re: W Hotel I like the light colored glass--it provides a nice contrast to brick, concrete, reflective glass, and dark glass. (Not that I want all new buildings to be similar, mind you). And I am so happy to see this site built on.

    Storrow Drive Talk

Re: Copley Place plan calls for condo tower (emphasis mine). If there is any real benefit of Storrow Drive, it is that it does keep traffic off of local streets.

    128 Project

Right. But induced demand is also a phenomena of transit improvements. And we don't say "lets not build the Green Line to Sommerville, because it may result in induced demand". In fact, we WANT induced demand in this instance. Concern about induced demand on highways is only relevant to...

    128 Project

While I am not a big fan of highway projects, let me suggest that Route 128 also needs new interchanges designed for current traffic levels. In particular, I am thinking of the interchange with 93, but there are others.

    Height Limits

What do you think I was talking about when I referred to headways if not running trains more frequently ? As AdamBC pointed out, the Green Line is clogged as is. And as I pointed out, increasing the frequency on the Red and Blue lines requires tighter schedule control.

    Height Limits

This is also the argument in favor of the urban ring--sort of. Anyway . . . Just looking at subway headways, the Orange Line has room for considerable additional trains. Additional capacity on the Red and Blue lines would depend on an ability to keep a tighter schedule--not one of the T's...

    Height Limits

I agree with Vanshnookenraggen that Boston's transportation infrastructure is pretty much maxed out. While I would like to see most current projects finished, it really is hard to imagine how substantial additional office growth could be accomodated without the addition of another subway line...

    Height Limits

I like Boston mostly as it is. But I do dislike allowing Logan to dictate downtown heights. They are an airport, for goodness sake. They serve the city, not the other way around. Now, am I willing to be reasonable, and negotiate this ? Sure.

    The Return of the Streetcar?

Why, Thank you. Now you are really talking my language. Unfortunately, I don't see any easy solution here. Rebuilding the Tremont Street subway in place would take many years. And given how heavily the Green Line is used, taking it out of service that long is not a pleasant option. I've...

Columbus Center: RIP | Back Bay

Re: Columbus Center Clearly, there are good projects, and bad projects. This was a good project. It really would be a shame to see this abandoned. On the other hand, I would not mind seeing that overgrown wart of a building, 888 Boylston, abandoned and replaced with a permament plaza.

    The Return of the Streetcar?

True enough--with the following caveat. The central Tremont Street subway is maxed out in terms of traffic--and it is common for streetcars to wait to enter stations. Similarly, some stations (especially Park Street) are pretty much as maximum capacity in terms of number of passengers. That...

    Millennium Tower (Filene's) | 426 Washington Street | Downtown

Re: Filene's I just read about this project going on-hold. This really stinks. First Columbus Center, now this. Please tell me that Russia Wharf remains on schedule. As to names, I would suggest something of the form "Center Crossing" or for those who don't like the word "center", perhaps...

    The Return of the Streetcar?

Well, I think the LRV on the right has a low floor, which is clearly useful for boarding people with disabilities. In any event, I have not so much been arguing about outside appearances, but rather the staples that make regular use tolerable, such as: 1. Air conditioning. 2. Comfortable...

    The Return of the Streetcar?

That's you (and me), Ablarc. Look at the hordes of tourists who already use fake historic trolleys, not just in Boston, but all over the country. (I've always been tempted to walk over one and yell at the occupants "Do you know you're riding in a fake trolley ? Would putting fake wings on a...
