    The Return of the Streetcar?

OK, I give up. But mark my words--tourists won't fundamentally care whether they ride in buses that look like historic trolleys, or in the real thing. Heck, I doubt most will even know the difference. I still argue for modern streetcars anyday.

    The Return of the Streetcar?

A surface route along the Greenway between North Station and South Station is not a bad idea. (I would have prefered it underground, and in fact, decades ago pestered Dukakis to consider re-routing the Green Line from Boylston Station under Essex Street to South Station and then along the...

    The Return of the Streetcar?

Doesn't matter. Investment is an OK word for me. My point is that transit improvements should be for the benefit of transit riders, not for the viewing pleasure of tourists and automobile driving suburbanites who get a thrill by looking at a quaint and historic transit system.

Columbus Center: RIP | Back Bay

Re: Columbus Center I hear your concerns regarding NIMBY requirements making long-term profitability questionable. But all developers should be prepared to weather short term ups and downs. If they can't, they shouldn't be in the business. Real Estate is a long term proposition.

    Mass Ave Reconstruction

Yes ! This would reduce overcrowding at downtown stations as transfers could be made at Mass Ave stations. And as a rider of the Number 1 bus in years past, let me begin by saying that service was truly horrible. Buses were constantly caught in traffic and would arrive in groups of two or...

    The Return of the Streetcar?

As an ex-B branch Green Line rider, I am all for Green Line improvements and expansion. But this trend towards "historic" streetcars, however, I find less useful. Call me lazy, but as a daily user of the Green Line in years past, I prefer soft seats in a fast, air-conditioned light rail...

Avalon Exeter | 77 Exeter Street | Back Bay

Re: New Tower(s) Planned For Prudential Center This building doesn't add anything to the skyline, nor given its location, should it. This is not a bad location for a plaza. Open space does have its place.

Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

Re: Christian Science Church Redevelopment Although I am adding nothing new, I too want to chime in regarding the Christian Science Center. All periods and styles of architecture and planning have their successes and failures. The Christian Science Center was a success. It would be a shame...

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

Once older bridges are replaced, and new catenary constructed on the New Haven railroad, maybe 15 minutes can be cut from the schedule, but I don't expect much more than that. There are just too many curves in Connecticut, with no political will to speed up travel for the benefit of New Yorkers...

    The Boston Bypass

Cool36: This was just some guys pipe dream from the 1980s as an alternative to the Big Dig. To the best of my knowledge, it was never given even the least consideration by the state transportation department--and thus, cannot truly be considered to be "canceled", "postponed", or even...

Re: W Hotel It is good to see holes in the cityscape finally plugged. Now if only something would happen with Hayward Place . . .

South Station Tower | South Station Air Rights | Downtown

Re: South Station Tower - Full Steam Ahead! Good. It is about time. There have been plans of sort for a tower here at least since 1979, when I arrived in Boston.

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

Re: North-South Rail Link To what extent is commuter rail useage currently limited by the lack of parking spaces at outlying stations ? If realizing the increased ridership projected for the North-South rail link will require expenditures on additional parking, that should be included in the...

    Commonwealth Avenue Improvement Project

This does put quite a bit of strain on the other branches of the Green Line. That is, inbound B line bus riders get dumped at Kenmore, and then all crowd onto the first C or D that comes into Kenmore. It is bad enough that this currently happens with the 57 Watertown bus. If the Green Line...
