High Speed Rail (Boston to... Texas?)

Ladies and Gentleman, we have both lobbyists and momentum. This is very encouraging news. http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/64213-advocates-for-high-speed-rail-lobby-for-more-after-8-billion-in-stimulus#

Nice views. Thanks for the pics. Too bad the rest of us have a view of only the giant gray monstrosity NU has literally 'thrown up' next to Ruggles.

    Commonwealth Avenue Improvement Project

Thereby creating job security for all companies involved with the never ending construction in Kenmore. The construction industry in Boston lives to feed itself, not to construct anything of lasting value or quality. Sweeping generalization: done.

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos Haha, I actually live in Medford for the specific reason that I wanted to avoid the green line at all costs. I havent been above ground on the green line since probably 2000. I hate it THAT much!

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos Does the T still offer free rides outbound, on all above ground stations on the green lines? If they are, can I ask why?

I disagree. Everything about this building says 'jail'

This really is the ugliest building I think I've seen built in Boston since I moved here in 1996. Simply remarkable how forbidding and cold this entire complex looks. Shame to waste such a prominent piece of land.

Really? Not too bad? Is this how far we've fallen that cheapy siding-ish panels with strips of color are considered "not too bad?" Man, this building is embarrassing.

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

But I dont want the Greenway to flourish. I want it to be ripped up and have the city reconnected to the waterfront without the unnatural barrier that the Greenway will and has become.

At what point can we rip up the poorly sodded grass and knit the city back together? The park DOES NOT WORK.

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

For the love of god, how many more firms is the city going to hire to "investigate" how best to use this land?! Unreal. $50 says they eventually hire a firm that recommends scrapping the whole thing and adding elevated highways to handle northbound traffic while leaving the tunnel as purely...

    Rose Kennedy Greenway

Wow! Disney sure has changed since I was last there in '84! Does anyone know if there are any plans to add a skating rink? Seems to me it would be a no-brainer to install one and have open skating and maybe even some kind of embankment that would permit a few spectators? Maybe have a...

What happened to making this a World Class park? Every time I open this thread I am confronted with a cheap looking, gaudy/tacky feeble attempt at dressing up this barren waste land. Where are the structures that will provide incentive for anyone to actually visit this park? Are there any...

High Speed Rail (Boston to... Texas?)

How about if I rephrase? The airline industry, should it be confronted with competition from a high speed rail transit system, will probably shed much of it's business. I have no economic knowledge/background/info other than being a flyer for the better part of my 30 years on earth. :) So it's...

High Speed Rail (Boston to... Texas?)

Well, with Obama pushing domestic infrastructure projects, everyone trying to go green, and the airline industry teetering on collapse... this seems like the ideal time to catch up with the rest of the world and build a high speed system. I'm hopeful.
