I think part of the failure was also due to an increase in the "meal tax" or something along those lines, which voters struck down. I think part of the tax increase was supposed to subsidize this development. But I can't entirely recall.

Renaming it and all the criticism is stupid. If that were really an issue - we'd have to rename a ton of rivers, mountains, islands, locations. Are we supposed to completely erase the history of the past in order to be virtuously guilt free? NGL this is effing STUPID.

Beautiful city. And so many lovely parking lots. Looks ripe for a 20-30+ story tower clad in glass.
