Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

As I understand it, the maximum speed for trains that tilt is 186 MPH. I don't know exactly why. That's 300 kilometers per hour so maybe anything designed for speeds higher than that is meant for dedicated high speed corridors which are built with fewer curves to begin with.

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

Metro North always gave their trains priority over Amtrak; especially when the Acelas were introduced. Amtrak essentially doubled their frequencies with the Acela introduction at the same time Metro North was making significant expansion of their own schedules. This all took place in the middle...

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

The distance from New Rochelle to Penn Station is 5 miles longer than the distance between New Rochelle and Grand central. That's worth the extra time seeing that Acela Express trains would not have superiority over the host railroad's trains, especially a "hot" one that the Governor is equally...

Regional New England Rail (Amtrak & State DOT & NEC)

It would have been a huge undertaking because a branch line enters the main line just west of that bridge, with a station just west of that junction.

    Wildlife Crossings

The Southeast Rail Project has "Turtle Crossings" in critical areas. They are just longer than normal ties with the ballast removed between them.

I'm curious about the new seat pattern. As I remember, when the seats are turned to face the middle of the coach, the seats in the center that would face each other are very close together, leaving little leg space and no tables. Did they move the tables to the center of the coach instead of...

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

That's a tough crossing. it's at the top of a rise in the road and it crosses the tracks at an acute angle. Maybe the gates are timed to go down too soon after the activation of the warning lights. I'm sure they are looking right now at what can be done to reduce the chance of this happening again.

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

There might be a snafu at Tarkiln Road crossing just north of Church St Station on the New Bedford Line . There is a Signal that interfaces with the Intersections on King's Highway (Tarkiln Road) that prevents cars from cueing at traffic lights onto the at- grade crossing. The train sends a...

I like the idea but the Chinese just tried it for their military, but it's sinking.

Amtrak already is a "Private Corporation" This guy is not a genius; he's a con man on the spectrum

    Commuter Rail to New Hampshire?

I have heard this false equivalence over and over, but I have never seen a scientific study that links road building and public transit to increased homelessness. I could be sarcastic, however, and suggest to the Alderman that you could kill two birds with one stone by building a bridge that...

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

I recently posted of a 30 day non-revenue simulated schedule to get the FRA sign off on the South Coast Rail project . That may be shortened to a much shorter time period.

Fall River/New Bedford Commuter Rail (South Coast Rail)

From what I'm hearing the FRA requires a month of simulated non revenue service before signing off on the project. Look for much more traffic on the lines very soon. Right now Keolis is running one set in the daylight to qualify employees. It will be interesting to see what Mass Coastal does to...

All the work that is left is punch-list stuff, and waiting for equipment such as switch heaters to arrive and be installed.

If You Were God/Goddess | Transit & Infrastructure Sandbox

I believe the mention of an East Providence bypass concerns the NE Corridor at East Junction in Hebronville MA. It is a sweeping curve that restricts the express trains to 110 MPH and is at the end of tangent track that begins in Mansfield MA.; About 11 miles. The spur track there is a straight...

Acela & Amtrak NEC (HSR BOS-NYP-WAS and branches only)

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

Why not combine Readville and Cleary Square at a point between the two? There's plenty of room to build there and then place another stop at Clarendon Hill, which is where the pedestrian overpass exist at "Kelly's". I think it spaces out gives the railroad a little extra space at Cleary Square...
