A taco place called Taco A Go Go is going into the Copper Branch spot. Sounds like some other work / improvements will be going on in this area? https://www.pressherald.com/2023/04/04/premier-retail-space-at-center-of-downtown-plaza-redesign/

Thanks, Portlander! Searching that turned up some good stuff. Here's one of City Hall during construction around 1911. It's interesting that the spire/weathervane used to be much taller:

The Casco | 201 Federal Street | Portland

Against my better judgement, I just went and had a look... Almost all of the comments are in support of taller buildings. Even some of the usual suspects, that typically complain about everything, are saying that we need to build up... I'm surprised.

Haha yeah... especially in Portland, apparently. People will look at that rendering and freak out about how it's too crazy, doesn't fit, why can't it just be a "normal" short, square brick building, etc...

There is a door there currently, perhaps they could install a glass pane on the inside of the tunnel wall, and use that space as a display window of sorts?

It wasn't my first pick, but I liked this design second best so I'm still quite excited for it. It'll be a huge upgrade. I'm all about the punch-out in the existing building, too. It will make moving around the side of the building a much better experience, the current sidewalk there is quite...

    South Portland, Maine

“I don’t think they should build residential there at all,” said Cathy Chapman, organizer of No Yard South, a recently formed citizens group. “I’m pro-green and pro-density, but not there.” Classic.

With the planned trail connection under the bridge, the bean factory site is like a 10 min walk to stuff in East Bayside, Washington Ave, close to the Eastern Prom, etc. Even shorter if you hop on a bike. I walk that way over the bridge all the time, it's not that far.

Portland, ME - New Construction Continued

Looks like construction has started on the Fallbrook Commons assisted living facility in North Deering. Not a particularly exciting project, but it's meant to serve as a replacement for the nearby St. Josephs, on Washington Ave - Curious about the future of that property once Fallbrook Commons...
